The Coronavirus, not the beer

Pretty sure Covid is blocking the Flu out. Same thing happened in the southern hemisphere over the Summer.

It's not hard to play around with some models to get this.

Suppose R naught without mitigation for Covid is 2.4 and for flu is 1.6.

Mitigation like mask wearing and social distancing cuts both in half to 1.2 and 0.8 respectively. This still leaves covid rising over time (with the ups and downs for weather and other factors) and the flu dropping off to very low levels.

Btw covid has had an estimated R naught in the United States since March of 1.1-1.2. If we had been able to do a little better and get it under 1 it would be doing the same thing the flu has been doing. But twas not to be.

Hold up, there is a 2+2 = 5 Twitter?

I need to check that out.

I’m guessing it’s not about Radiohead or the street mural artist in Havana?

Damn, I’m gonna have to use a different formula to mock people for being stupid till I investigate this more

As someone said earlier, how can you use that excuse after passing the previous pork barrel, or the disaster of relief package before that. I expect them to lie but I'm offended when they assume I'm stupid.

Leverage for something he wants included or something else id think.

Or it's just pomp. Playing up to the idea that Republicans care about the deficit, even if the deficit of a republican controlled Senate and House under GWB is responsible for 4th biggest growth in % of the debt of all time. Which of course is because of the very expensive Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Which we know one of them was totally unnecessary.

at least one of them.

It is generally accepted Iraq was unnecessary. I think Afghanistan was a knee jerk reaction that had it been thought out ...
But then there was the pipeline

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afgha... pipeline is expected to be completed by 2020.

I agree with the point that in prioritizing you want to give some weight to how likely a person is to cause it to spread more widely. So yeah, bar hoppers certainly fall in that group. Otoh giving vaccines to bar hoppers might encourage bar hopping. It's tricky.

And when a lot of people are dying, it does make sense to cut corners in bringing vaccines to market. Again the details are tricky, but the general principle seems sound.
