Again, Mayor Bowser signed the order to keep additional federal forces and troops out of DC. The same mayor that trolled every non woke American by painting the name of a racist and Marxist organization on the street right outside the White House.
So when you read this reporting that is either propaganda or absurd, realize that their assertion requires that Bowser was on board with the "coup attempt." Realize when they make their little dishonest barbs that imply the National Guard wasn't deployed like it was for BLM because racism, that they know Bowser is the reason the National Guard wasn't there. They think you're either ignorant enough to believe it..or will fall for it for some other reason.
Mayor of DC has no control over capitol grounds.
But believe your conspiracy theory, even if Mayor Bowser put in a request for National Guard support and got it So why didn't the Capitol Police Board?

And incase you didn't notice, yes Capitol Police is different than DC Metro

So yeah, blame someone who has nothing to do with it because she has a D next to her name.
One thing people forget about the first days of BLM protests last summer is the fact that the National Guard wasn't called out preemptively. The National Guard wasn't called out until protests turned into riots. Atlanta is a good example. The initial protests were peaceful and fine. Then that one night they turned into riots with morons breaking into malls and looting high end stores. It wasn't until that happened that the National Guard was called out.
The same happened here. Trump rallies and protests have largely been peaceful. Even the mayor of DC didn't expect this to turn violent. I actually think her decision not to invite in federal officers was reasonable. The confusion of coordinating different agencies could lead to issues. It was a legitimate concern. There was no reason to call out the National Guard preemptively. Then things turned violent and now the National Guard has to be on alert.
Trump rallies should now be subjected to the same precautions that BLM protests were subjected to after they turned violent last summer.

The more reporting we hear, the more it seems like Trump
saw the mob as a part of his *strategy* for overturning the election

I think saying the mob was part of Trump's strategy is giving Trump too much credit. I think he didn't care if there was violence when he gave the speech. When the riot broke out he saw his "enemies" fleeing in the face of his supporters and that no doubt stroked his ego. It's what you get with a narcissist.
The riot didn't start at the Capitol. Unless I'm mistaken, the rally that Trump attended was DC police's jurisdiction. A stronger presence there might have prevented things from getting out of hand in the first place.
But like I said, I don't think her decision was unreasonable. These rallies don't have a history of turning into riots so calling in the big guns preemptively was unjustified.
I think the biggest failure is just how unprepared the Capitol Police were for a riot. This exposed the fact that the Capitol needs stronger security on an every day basis.
