Boy... that's a head scratcher... in general since 2015 he's been a 0.3 to 1.4 fWAR player with the exception of a small sample of 37 games last year as a 30 year old catcher... you do you Moore, but that's a weird extension for the Royals.
 
The Royals have a lot invested in being an organization that “takes care of players.” They generally don’t play service time games, for instance. Moore sincerely believes in the whole “we’re a family” thing.

Which is mostly admirable, but woof, that’s a rough contract.

They've got Duffy's $15.5 million coming off the books in 2022 and Minor's $13 million coming off in 2023 - both of those guys are going to be replaced (and upgraded) by adding Bubic/Lynch/Lacy.

Having John Sherman at the top and Patrick Mahomes joining their ownership group will mean that they'll be a little more open to spending on payroll - they'll be fine.

I don't get it.

I know catcher is trash right now. But this is a guy on the wrong side of 30 who is projected to put up a sub 300 OBP. He put up good numbers last year, so maybe someone thinks that is sustainable.

I think if I'm a royals fan I want us to sell high on this guy, not lock him up.

Simply making a point - no idea who *issed in your cereal this morning.

He's the face of their franchise who played for a hometown discount for years - he's being rewarded for that now that Gordon is off their books and they have a little extra money to spend. As MFII pointed out, DMGM and their organization has a history of taking care of their own when they have a chance to. That's actually pretty refreshing (and awesome) in an age where lots of people are dead-set on getting rid of anyone who provides less than 3 WAR regardless of what they've done for their organization in the past.

Perez is pretty beloved among Royals fans, and it's possible the organization just decided they were going to make sure Perez ended his career as a Royal, damn the consequences. And hey, it's just John Sherman's money, so what do I care? But, in theory, the Royals are expecting to contend in the next couple years, and if they're paying Salvy $20+ million in three years to be a below replacement level player while they're trying to win the division, well, fans can turn on a franchise icon pretty quickly.
 
This discussion has gone on for months but if you take out the TWO 3 homer games and look at the rest of his numbers the flail and fail just would not help this team over a 160 game season at the cost of his arb contract.

I mean I guess if you're a player that's great. If you're a Royals fan, this is a move to will likely serve to hinder their ability to compete over the next few years. I mean they won't likely be competing anytime soon anyways. But still, I don't see how anyone but view this move as a positive for the organization.

Letting go of Duvall was completely understandable. Not finding a suitable replacement when there were a plethora of quality replacement options available at super cheap prices is what is baffling. Jay Bruce signed a minor league contract with the Yanks. He is essentially the LH version of Duvall, which makes him a much better fit than Duvall.
 
I've been out of the loop. What is our rotation expected to look like when camp ends?

Fried, Morton, Anderson, ???, ???

I'm assuming Soroka needs a little more time before he's ready
