No All Star Game in Atlanta This Season?

Georgia republicans aren’t done ****ing over the state

“Republicans in the Georgia state legislature have floated the idea of increasing taxes on Delta Air Lines as retribution for the company speaking out against a new state law that makes it harder for people to vote.”

Scrolling Twitter this morning and was amazed at the amount of blue checks speaking authoritatively about the Braves, Cobb County, Atlanta, and Georgia overall as if they were experts while saying things objectively false.

Facts don't matter anymore. The only consideration is whether something fits a narrative.

One of my favorites were people stating as if it was gospel that the Braves moved to Cobb for racist reasons. Five minutes of research would show the only color that mattered in the move was green. Cobb actually caught flack for giving the Braves an overly generous deal.

But facts don't matter.

Weird that the city of Atlanta isn’t considered racist for helping the falcons and not the braves. Seems like they didn’t want to help a sport predominantly watched by white people.

Now of course that is patently absurd.

Can the state sue MLB for potential loss income? It’ll be interesting to watch MLB take the stand and argue that this voting bill does something it really doesn’t so they’ll lose and look like fools.

It would depend on whether the State had any contracts with MLB or whether they'd relied upon MLB promising them the All Star game to their (the State's) detriment. I don't see it as likely.

It's far more likely Cobb, the Braves, or local vendors could sue. There are going to be A LOT of contracts MLB breached yesterday. We're 3 months out from the game. Lots of stuff is already in motion. MLB better get ready to open its wallet.

What is lacking in this whole crazy narrative is common sense.

Dems want zero ID voting. Voting ID’s are free, you just have to prove you are a citizen. This makes no sense.

Republicans then swing back hard in the other direction as a counter.

What most people are looking for is just common sense without going far left or right.

MLB making a political decision to move the All Star game not only penalizes basically 99% of people who literally had nothing to do with the law, but also sets a bad tone going forward of politics in sport and any other areas. There are always ramifications for these over reaches. What’s next, your boss fires you because he finds out you are of the opposing party?

Agree or disagree with the laws (or maybe you don’t even care). We continually keep opening Pandora’s box on both sides with abuse of power. Social Media and now even sports...the water is getting hotter. Sad part is (just like the All Star game), we the people that have nothing to do with these power struggles...are the ones that get the shaft.

Standing up against racism is always important, but make no mistake...none of these moves (on either side) is about that. It’s about power. Political power.

Hope MLB loses every penny they potentially could from this

When are the liberals on this board that agree with MLB’s decision to pull out of Georgia for politicial reasons, going to voice thier support to pull the Olympics out of Beijing?

Cool comparison. I'm in.

If they want to be good corporate citizens, companies should not be sponsoring the Beijing Olympics. To me this is a no-brainer.
