No All Star Game in Atlanta This Season?

Hopefully Texas and other states are watching. Those who would pander to the BIG LIE have been duly warned. And no I don't mind virtue signaling one bit when it comes to participatory democracy. There are many things state legislators can do that I disagree with and wouldn't support a boycott over. Voting rights aint one of those.

The evil of virtue signaling is that it replaces actual action. Donating money to voting initiatives, spending on lobbying efforts, cutting ties with authoritarian regimes, etc, could all be done but they would require committing resources.

Why do that when you can tweet?

Personally I'd have more respect for companies if they just said "We believe it's improper for corporations to attempt to influence politics" and refuse to take sides.

And yet you still can’t make an argument that any of these laws, even in Texas, are suppressive.

I have no objection to activism by tweet. I also favor other forms of action, including boycotts directed at jurisdictions that suppress voting.

sure they are...i laid that out for you yesterday

what Texas did in the last election and proposes to do in these new laws are both a lot worse than what is in Georgia's new law

Such boycotts do more harm than good. They tend to hurt innocent people more than those in power and just make people dig in their heels.

Take the All Star Game for example. Who is hurt? Small businesses and individual workers. What is the response? Outrage from Republicans who are more likely to double down than to relent. Who benefits in the long run? Republicans who can use the "woke mob" to drive voter turnout.

Work within the process. It's more moral and far more effective.

No. They are aimed to end ballot harvesting and no amount of spin can change that. For some reason you have chosen to ignore the practice. I can only speculate as to why.

That's why I don't support boycotts generally. There is collateral damage. So on 99% of issues if a state legislature does something I consider bad, I would not support a boycott over it. But there are a small number of issues, which includes voter suppression, where I'm in favor of bringing out the hammer.

But why do you support it? What's the logic?

If it's not effective and only harms innocent people, why support it?

Boycotts of states feel good but do way more harm than good. They rarely do any good at all.

Well organized boycotts of individual companies can sometimes be effective. Boycotts of a state are never effective.

It's the same logic with war. Some things are important enough to accept the collateral damage.

But only if the goal is achievable. A boycott of a state to get election laws changed? Not effective.

Collateral damage without an achievable goal is simply hurting people to vent frustration.

We don't know if the goal will be achieved. Just like when a country goes to war, the outcomes typically are uncertain. Did George Washington have certainty when he crossed the Delaware? I'd say he faced much longer odds than the ones advocates of participatory democracy are facing in their efforts to deter Texas and other states from suppressing voting.

As I said though I don't favor bringing out the hammer as standard tool for influencing politics. We have to accept a certain amount of policymaking is going to go against us. But as a corollary to that, the mechanism for resolving our political differences (the voting booth) should not be something to be trifled with. We have an ugly history in this country in that regard. And 2020 and the BIG LIE that accompanied it added another really ugly chapter.

The lecturer supports a BIG LIE in order to get a political win, despite the law doing nothing what he says.

He is a fraud. A loser. A wannabe tyrant. He gets literally everything wrong. Add this to the list, and remember the next time he is lecturing about something that he is willing to support massive lies in order to impose his political will, despite who it hurts

You forgot commie.

Denver gets the all star game.

Denver has a black population of 8%, compared to 50% black population in Atlanta.

You can Always count on liberal policies to further hurt black people

It would be hilarious if the naacp did bring this up, and they declared mlb racist.

Why is it that the left is so scared to vocally unify around condemning China?

Why are they so willing to call their own citizens racists, but they won't touch the racial genocide over there?

A critical thinker may wonder... A sheep will continue to nod along

Those groups are not interested in furthering the interest of black people.

Quite the opposite. They aim to keep them down so they will always have a lucrative business
