The Biden Presidency

Sen. Joe Manchin III told reporters in his home state of West Virginia on Friday morning that he does not support the bill to make D.C. the nation’s 51st state, according to audio provided by the Democrat’s office and a report from WVNews.

Manchin, a key swing vote in the closely divided Senate, said he believed a constitutional amendment, rather than legislation, would be required to admit D.C. as a state. His stance deals a major blow to statehood advocates who were hoping for his support after the bill passed the House last week.

Btw the constitution doesn't specify that a state's territory has to be contiguous. I would merge DC with the smallest state, which happens to be Wyoming. Would be a highly competitive purple state.

Real life LOL.

I support returning the District to it's historical home of Maryland. I suspect that Republicans would be willing to work together with Democrats to do so before the next election, so that those tragically underrepresented DC citizens can be given an equal voice.

Alternatively, we could merge it with West Virginia, the constitutionality of whose statehood is dubious to start with.

But I could support this deal: give DC back to Maryland and West Virginia back to Virginia. Wonder what Manchin would make of that.

Large numbers of Northern Virginians work in DC. I’d just create DC and give this part of Virginia to DC as well. That makes the most sense to me.

They don’t want representation, they want two more senate votes that’s all this is

so maybe Wyoming can give them their 2 senators and accept representation by a single representative in the house

that way the number of senators can stay fixed at 100

seems like a reasonable compromise to me

Of course you’d believe that the reds losing votes while the blues gaining votes is a reasonable compromise.

I like it. Let's combine the Carolinas too, and merge all the land from the Louisiana Purchase back into Louisiana. Except Texas, because one does not mess with Texas.

And we should return California to Mexico, obviously. That was always a dirty deal.

Commie goldy is certain this is because businesses don't pay enough.

But even he is not dumb enough to think this is sustainable, is he?

I'm curious what your reasoning is for this.

Beef is becoming more and more expensive.

We're moving into a world of chicken with the general drought trends. Which I'm fine with. Fried Chicken instead of burgers is an acceptable move. Even though I adore beef.
