MTG shines the spotlight on MTG with a nod and a wink from the party

" MTG is the fact of the GOP in the same way AOC or The Squad is the face of the Dems. "

" I didn't say AOC and MTG are equally out there. "

take your pick

They're both the faces of their respective parties because the other side has made them so. So they are the faces of their party in the same way.

I have very little respect for AOC. She's an ideologue of the highest order. If reality doesn't fit her narrative, she rejects it in favor of the narrative. But ideologues aren't exactly rare in politics.

MTG is a big ole bag of crazy. I have no respect for her either but I also find her very unsettling.

I get the impression that AOC is anti-semitic in the same way many wealthy, older white businessmen are racist. The businessmen will say all the appropriate things in public and probably don't actually view themselves as racist. But they engage in all kinds of stereotypes and hold all kinds of pre-conceived notions based on race. When it comes time to hire a new executive, you can usually predict the color of the person they'll hire.

I get the feeling AOC is the same way. She condemns anti-semitism publicly but still holds a bunch of stereotypes and preconceived notions. When it comes to taking sides where Israel is concerned, you probably know what she's going to do.

To be clear an ideologue whose ideology you disagree

Is that your bar for respect ?

She has a point of view. No more no less

Perhaps your experience was her experience you might have a parallel point of view.
This is what makes America great. To borrow a phrase

I honestly don't care where she falls on the political spectrum. I can disagree with someone and respect them. My best friend and I have very, very different political viewpoints and it doesnt impact my respect for him in the slightest.

The fact that she's an idealogue is what loses my respect. I abhor idealogues. I want to see primaries done away with so we'll have fewer of them in office.

I want pragmatists in office.

I think AOC and MTG are actually good indications of where the passion is on each side of the aisle.

AOC and MTG make me proud that I’m not a member of either of their parties

They show why one of two things need to happen. First, we should get rid of primaries. The more rabid members of a party are the most likely to vote in primaries so the candidates are often being selected by the extremes. With most districts being safe, this leads to a lot of members of Congress who represent only a fraction of their district. Some kind of ranked choice voting would result in candidates more acceptable to a larger number of people in a district being elected. These people would be more moderate, reasonable people.

Absent that, the parties need to split. Center left and center right people have more in common with each other than they do with the extremes of their parties right now. A third party would help but there probably needs to be 4 parties if we're going to keep primaries. A far right party, a center right party, a center left party, and a far left party. This would give better representations and also it would prevent a majority of the majority party (still a minority overall) from taking control of the country.

imagine comparing aoc and that stupid cunt as equals

i really can't of a better example of false equivalency

AOC is actually a serious politician who has departed from party orthodoxy in thoughtful ways. For example, she is one of two Democrats in the NY congressional delegation who has opposed reinstating the SALT deductions on grounds that this would be regressive. She's also pumped the brakes on Puerto Rico statehood on the grounds that the people there are pretty ambivalent about whether they want it.

Thoughtful isn't the word I'd use for her. She sticks to her beliefs over party orthodoxy, that's for sure and I respect that. But she's also prone to try to take stances on issues she doesn't really understand or else has a completely incorrect handle of the facts. She also is still painfully naive about the way things actually work.

She's an ideologue. She almost reaches the point of zealot as her political positions are almost dogma to her. If she was in control she'd be very dangerous as her beliefs aren't informed by the world as it exists but instead her beliefs inform how she views the world. That's the hallmark of an ideologue. Where reality and ones beliefs conflict, reality is rejected.

MTG is just nuts. She's living in her own little fantasy world.
