Second Guessers Special: Unfilled Off-Season Wish List

And the one time the Braves surpassed that number, the pitchers gave up 13.

Yep. 9 earned. The only game where they gave up ANY unearned runs. Overall, the defense only had two errors (both in that game). Caught 50% of the runners trying to steal. Turned five double-plays. etc etc Certainly played well enough.

Yeah, the pitching was what lost us that series.

But not like our hitting was much better sans Game 3.

Even still, the rotation isnt something to be THAT concerned with.

Braves hit a buzzsaw in HanRam. That was our biggest killer. Other guys stepped up massively for thme as well but HanRam's insanity created many problems cause we had to pitch to Uribe's and Puig's strengths. We couldn't pitch (for lack of a better term) around them. The Dodgers went to St. Louis and then HanRam crapped the bed. Pitching for sure plays a part in that, but so does just dumb bad luck.

In game 1 alone Medlen gave up 2 or 3 runs that he shouldn't have because of Gattis and Justin missing fly balls. Those plays aren't scored as errors but that's defense costing the Braves a chance to win.

You guys are suck a bunch of freaking whiners. Spring training games haven't even started yet and you guys are already ready to cancel the damn season. GTFO with this negative ****!

Yeah, I pin the fail in game 1 on Fredi's shoulders. He should have gone defensive heavy and played Bossman in CF, Jason in RF and Justin in LF. We still likely lost, but his inconsistent management (going defense first at 2B but offense first in the OF?) lead us to defeat JMO.

I'm also pretty sure the defense first guy at 2B made an error. Just an all around bad playoff performance last year outside of Minor's good start and the solid work Gattis did with the bat.

Keep in mind that while Teheran's line ended up looking bad, he was utterly dominant to start the game. After his initial adrenaline dump wore off it looked like he hit a wall, which is something more experience can mosr certainly help with in the future.

This team has 2 more realistic runs at a WS this year and next, so all we can do is hope the so-called crapshoot lands our way at least once in that timeframe.

And Elliot Johnson didn't exactly pass my eye test as being a very good defender at 2B during his time there either, before the playoffs.

And dont' forget that Chris Johnson had a great series with the bat as well. CJ and Gattis were pretty much the offense the entire series.

The problem with Gattis and Johnson was they only had singles. Our power went out which sucked. We literally had 5 extrabase hits no hitter with 2 (Freddie, Justin, and Simmons with 1 double, Elliot with a triple, Jason with a homer) And kicker is if Fredi treats the game like a post season game and sends Kimbrel out there for 2, we may still have won it.

The biggest hurdle for us, is our manager. Hopefully he learned from his mistakes.

Did you notice the thread title? This is what the freaking discussion is about.

Yep. Johnson and Gattis were the only guys that hit in the series, but all singles. Braves hit 1 homerun (Heyward in a game that was already decided) and gave up 6 to the Dodgers. That was the difference offensively in the series.

Hanley got hit in the ribs and was never the same.

Could barely grip the bat.

Cards cheap shotted him.

The Kimbrel thing, no one knows.

Puig was at 2nd, with no one out.

A stolen base, then a sac fly ties it up.

Then you might go to extras.

If they were gonna go with him for 2, should of started the 8th and 9th.

But Fredi didnt make all our SP's sans Minor and even Garcia **** the bed.

In a game against the best pitcher in baseball, Fredi put out a lineup that included our worst OF for run prevention without doing anything really dumb (like putting Gattis in CF) and it bit us in the ass. Game 3 you can pin on Julio tanking but if we didn't have some hits fall in game one that Justin catches in LF or Jason catches in RF maybe the whole dynamic of the game changes.
