Trades/acquisitions

Agree on Kimbrel. Terrible match for us. We already have an expensive BP without adding Kimbrel. We don't need a closer anyways. Get a solid rental RH reliever or two. Maybe add an expiring contract for a platoon guy like Harrison. If we get a difference maker though, it's gotta be someone with control. Sending out one of top 10 prospects for 3 months of someone in a year we're likely to miss the playoffs is a terrible decision.

Not from a year to year standpoint. But we had 0 fans in the stadium last season. You have to maximize your fan attendance and spending at al cost this season. Fans don't just buy the ticket, they spend money on parking, food, beer, etc. If we can maximize profits this year to offset last seasons losses, this team would be in a much better spot in the offseason.

Keep in mind, if we strike in 2022, you would be losing 2 seasons of fan revenue.

Again, 3 months of fan attendance isn't going to move the needle whatsoever in payroll. Every team is working under those same limitations as well.

The best news about us being in for Gallo was AA targeting someone who would be here next year as well. Unless it's for scraps I don't like the idea of bringing in Bryant just to see him walk.

This is the reason I bring up Merrifield. Extended control, can play multiple positions, would really help stretch the lineup even without Acuna.

I've pretty much been "out" on ALL the rentals (Bryant included) all along - Pederson's enough, and is OK since he didn't cost much. If AA's not adding long-term pieces - as Carp mentions - I wish he'd just go get what he can for Morton and others. I will say that I think it might be worth trying to straddle the fence in Kyle Gibson's case though - if you can get him for a reasonable return, he replaces Smyly as one of your veteran options in 2022 for ~ $3.5 million less than Smyly's making. If you can get a pretty nice haul for Morton (I still think you could get Grichuk and Groshans for Morton and Pederson) and pick up Gibson, you'd have ~ $19 million per to try to land Stroman/Gausman/Ray or try to talk Morton into coming back for one more season.

Our 2 biggest trade pieces essentially control if they are traded or not. So that possibly plays a part in why we aren't selling. As far as buying, it's been discussed ad nauseam.

I have a feeling we could sell them on the idea of being traded. We also have pen pieces that could be traded. I agree I don’t want to buy this year. We aren’t close enough to have someone come in and help. Although targeting a few guys that might need a change of scenery and shopping them for other guys needing changes would at least be something.

I've seen this....is this true?

Why does Morton control his destiny? We don't usually do no trades. FF has the tenure.

Sitting 4 games out of the east and we trade FF and Morton? That would go over great with the fanbase and clubhouse.

It is absolute madness to trade for any expiring contracts when we are not only under .500, but have not been over .500 all year. ANY moves made should have next years team in mind. We would have next to zero chance of beating the Dodgers (even if we made the playoffs), and there is under a 15% chance we would even make it to that point.

I “get” we are all very tired of AA not pushing in, but of all years…this is 120% the WORST time to do it.

We haven’t been above .500 AT ALL. we are going to continue this eb and flow of mediocrity and then watch these guys walk anyway. A GM shouldn’t give a crap what fans think.

This is a business also, not just a game.

We just disagree, and im done with this talk about trading FF and Morton. It isn't gonna happen, so we might as well talk about trading for soto for LF since it's just as likely

Saw this on Twitter: Remember that trade the #Dodgers made with the Reds? The one in which they traded away Matt Kemp, Yasiel Puig, Alex Wood and Kyle Farmer. Well, the two prospects they got in return were used in deals to acquire Mookie Betts, Max Scherzer and Trea Turner.

This is one of the things I've been thinking about with AA that's been frustrating me. Looking at our top prospects list on any site, and there isn't a single prospect that AA traded for. Every prospect is either one that he or the previous regime drafted, or the previous regime signed as an international prospect. Obviously the international sanctions aren't AA's fault, but as that tweet points out, the Dodgers and plenty of others still prioritize getting prospects back in deals even in their windows to compete. You'd think that would be even more of a priority for an organization that hasn't been able to sign any impact international prospects. And it's even more of an argument to sell some pieces this year when the entire roster has been destroyed by injuries, but he won't do that either.

We're in our window to compete right now, so I'm not asking AA to trade everything specifically for prospects, but it's been a weird balance of him showing zero interest in adding prospects to the system while also showing zero interest in giving up any prospects.

I never thought we should trade Freddie, unless they decided he they were not going to sign him back (which I very much doubt is the case).

Smyly, Morton, Smith etc….absolutely…IF there is a good return. We need the boost to the farm system, and competing this year is a pipe dream.

I believe that is what the 5 is. Five with the same team.

The "5" is with your CURRENT TEAM. Freeman no longer has 10/5 protection if he leaves this winter - he'll have to negotiate a no-trade clause into his deal (and that probably ain't happening anywhere other than here)..

He was going to retire unless he got the $ figure he wanted for a team he wanted to play for. So it wouldn't be all to surprising if he simply retired rather go to a city he doesn't want to move to. It's also possible that while not part of the contract, it was understood he didn't want to be traded during the season and AA is respecting that wish.
