Trades/acquisitions

Idk if I saw it reported but Snitker says Smith will remain closer

I'm still surprised that the Rockies didn't move Story. They say Gray wants to sign an extension so I guess I can get not trading him. But Story has essentially said he won't be back. After not being traded, he told the press he was "confused" why he wasn't traded. “I don’t have really anything good to say about the situation and how it unfolded,” Story says.

I find it hard to believe they didn't get a better offer than when they will only get a comp pick this offseason

Probably most excited about Rosario among all of our additions. He was getting back on track before the injury. Rate stats are basically at career norms. Exit velocity is as well. Traditionally he's mashed RHP pretty well.

Story isn't playing particularly well this year. And most of the contenders have a good SS already or traded for better options like Baez and Turner. So that probably depressed his market

The Braves simply aren’t good enough to have been buyers, and then moreover they didn’t buy particularly well.

The Braves aren’t very good, but it’s debatable as to whether they should’ve been sellers or buyers as things stand. There’s legit arguments for both. However, I simply cannot agree that they didn’t “buy well” given their situation.

They didn’t give up much—though Kalich and, to a lesser extent, DeVito, looked like good bullpen arms down the road. But they also didn’t acquire much—certainly nothing needle-moving.

At least the Pederson and Duvall platoon can be retained for next season.

It doesn’t put the Braves vehicle into overdrive, but Rosario and Soler are both really good buy-low candidates. I think the hope is to catch lightning in a bottle over the last two months, and to properly platoon these guys as they all have pronounced splits (including Pederson). If Snit can be forced to utilize these players correctly, if potentially does make us a better team. Pretty much the perfect acquisitions for a team in our situation. And then Rodriguez was an absolute steal.

RichRod is controlled two more seasons. I get hanging ion to assets but sometimes you have to role the dice. Even if this doesn’t win you anything you still built a competitive enough team to make fans stay interested. That revenue and hopefully a playoff game or two can keep the payroll where it needs to be. You also now have first hand looks at guys who could play into DH/bench roles next year.

I agreed this year is shot. I said I wanted to sell. But if we didn’t then these moves were perfect for this season. We didn’t mortgage the future and got pieces that can be carried over to next year with others that can be brought back. We will keep butts in the seats and the money flowing. I am happy with yesterday.
