That would be fine if he was using everyone that way, but he doesn't. There's no rhyme or reason to when he brings guys in. He uses Jackson for that one day, then Matzek one day, then Martin, THEN he uses Rodriguez.

Until he uses people consistently this pen won't be any better than it was to begin with.
 
I like the way Snit has used the pen since the acquisition. Not his fault that guys sometimes have bad outings and give up homers to Riley Adams.
 
This is what happens when you have starters who can’t ever go 7 innings and a manager who uses high leverage guys in 4-5 run games. Our pen is taxed right now. We need Yona back and Anderson back and it will give a boost to the pen.

I don't think the order really matters at all with the group of guys we have. Just matchup the best you can?

In the last 30 days coming into today the Braves' pen had the 6th best ERA at 3.35 and 5th best FIP at 3.59

Whatever we have been doing lately seems to be working.

What are you talking about? Since the deadline Snit has managed the pen almost flawlessly. You do realize relievers can’t pitch everyday, right?
 
If Greene, Minter and Dayton were all having good years again, along with O’Day, there wouldn’t as much griping and we would be in first place.

Adding Rodriguez was a necessary bump to the bullpen. The strategy of "build back from the closer" isn't as relevant now as it was 10 years ago, but adding Rodriguez has given Snitker a much greater margin-of-error. In an ideal world, Rodriguez would be the set-up guy who could close when required, but his presence by itself provides a lot more flexibility and he can be slotted into high leverage situations earlier in the game over the less-trustworthy Jackson and Martin.

Time before that he came in to pitch to the heart of the order.

Don't mind him down there, but would like to see Pederson in front of Duvall to break the right-handed hitters up a bit.

Don't know that it would make a huge difference - just tougher for opposing Managers to bring in specialists when they don't get to see 3 right-handed guys in a row.

Which again is absolutely fine if there was some sort of method to the way he used Jackson and Martin. Two days ago Martin came in in the 6th and was followed by Jackson then Chavez. They're less-trustworthy - no doubt - but the way they're constantly used in different situations certainly can't make it any easier for them to be used late in games.

That's the difference between managing "by the numbers" vs. handling personalities and mindsets. We constantly hear how much harder the last 3 outs are to get and how much harder it is to pitch in the 8th inning than the 6th. The numbers tell you that shouldn't be an issue, yet we continue to see Minter, Matzek, Jackson, etc. struggle mightily in the later innings even when the matchups seem to favor them.

Is that between their ears? Sure. Unfortunately there's not much anyone can do about that. If you burn Rodriguez early, you're always going to be left with guys who have a track record of struggling later in games. If Minter/Matzek/Jackson/Martin are going to blow a lead, I'd just as soon they do it when the offense still has a chance to score again rather than be stuck with three outs left and all the air sucked out of the building.

I think it’s best to temper expectations with TDA. He was a replacement level player when he got injured and is returning from a significant hand injury.

That being said replacement level production is better than the vast majority of our other catching options.

I’ll just be happy right now for the C position to not be terrible.
