the time is long past due for this topic to have its own thread

i just want to disclose at the outset that i am very much in favor of oppression of the pro-covid traitors in our midst

i know some of y'all have a different view

so have at it

discuss and debate

You went from "I support government incentives to take the shot"

To "I support unlimited government oppression against the unclean traitors"

Really fast

You would. Have turned in Anne Frank and bragged about it on this board if given the chance

incentives and oppression are two sides of the same coin

making people pay a fine for example

some will call it oppression

others will call it an incentive

it is semantics as far as i can tell

but yeah i am in favor of making life difficult for the pro-covid traitors in our midst...y'all can call it oppression if you wish...or tyranny

But have you finished talking **** about your family yet? Need more updates

why should i not call someone bat**** crazy if in fact that is what they are

i think we are at a point where niceties and politeness count for less...we have a group of people who have adopted a homicidal ideology that has caused tens of thousands of deaths and untold misery...are we supposed to tiptoe around that...i don't think so

Once again I fail to see how an unvaxxed person is causing death to vaxxed people, unless you agree that the vaccines don't work.

The est are death by suicide, which you also enthusiastically support.

What's the problem.

You should impose an Australian style self. Arrest and stay away from society. It is. Just too dangerous for your frail disposition. Take care of yourself

1) a drunk driver causing the death of another drunk is still a crime and an immoral act

2) some people who are unable to take the vaccine and even some who are vaccinated are being killed by the homicidal ideology that has taken hold among the pro-covid crowd

It is shocking that the tyrants of Denmark and Norway have reversed their tyrannical actions and set their people free. I thought once you went down the slippery slope of oppression and tyranny there was no going back. Gives me some hope for Australia.

Denmark had mask mandates and covid passports. And yet the tyrants gave it up. I thought tyrants didn't do stuff like that. It is shocking. Someone needs to send them to oppression AND tyranny 101 so they can learn how to do it oppress and tyrannize the right way.

My point is that the Aussies are pluralistic democratic society that have made a set of choices that reasonable people might make under the circumstances. Others have screamed bloody tyranny AND oppression and cited all sorts of nonsense about animal abuse and elder abuse to justify their own pro-covid ideological convictions. Every society pursuing every policy does regrettable things. The fact is those regrettable things happen everywhere. But some seem to have made it a little cottage industry to use those regrettable things to say Australia is a tyranny going down this awful slippery slope. It aint so.

Australia (like Denmark and Norway) will come out of this with their freedoms as strong as ever. And far fewer deaths than those places who have fallen under the sway of pro-covid ideologues.

It seems to me we are accumulating some data points against the slippery slope argument. The tyrants in Denmark and Norway (and elsewhere) have been more than happy to shelve various covid restricitions (mask mandates, covid passports, etc) once they hit certain vaccination targets.

The tyrants in Canada and Germany have shockingly held free and fair elections in which the voters have had an opportunity to elect a new group of tyrants.

Turns out the slippery slope argument against doing anything to combat covid doesn't hold much if any water. Fears that covid-related restrictions are the leading edge of some sort of conspiracy to turn people into obedient sheep and take away "muh freedoms" turn out to be simply the product of fevered anxiety-infused imaginations. The proper response is not to stop battling covid but to avail oneself of the various pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions that are known to be effective against anxiety and fear.
