With all due respect to Garcia. He did better than a Sosa-esque performance.
A 1.67 WHIP with two homeruns allowed (luckily solo)? That's a Sosa start.

Exactly. And we have Medlen, Minor, Beachy, Teheran and Wood all better than Garcia. Hale too imo though that could be reasonably disputed. And Floyd when he gets back.
At this point I would take Garcia over Varvaro as our long man in the pen. But I don't think he belongs in our rotation. There really is no case for it. If we want to limit Wood's innings we can do so when Floyd comes back.

Garcia did not allow a runner to reach third (aside from the homers obviously) and one of this walks was intentional and one of the singles was an infield single. I really don't believe that it was as lucky of an outing as its being made out to. Now, I'm not basing my decision on this one start. I just think he has something left in the tank and it wouldn't be the first time the Braves identified a vet that had something left in the tank when nobody thought so.
People made the same arguments about Sosa (who pitched like that for longer than FOUR starts). After going 13-3, he followed with a 3-11 season. That's pretty much what we have to look forward to.
Its certainly possible but Sosa was just a guy that reared back and threw. Someone with his stuff should have been a decent pitcher but he had no clue what he was doing. Its kind of the opposite with Garcia and I'll take the skillset that Garcia has over a guy like Sosa any day of the week.

You don't think a veteran pitcher is more aggressive with runners not on base?
Those of us arguing against Garcia in the rotation aren't basing it on one start either. We are looking at what Wood did both in the minors and majors last year. Ditto for Hale. Ditto for Garcia. We are looking at Floyd's track record. That's how you make those decisions. Not based on one start. I think we are all agreed there.
So Garcia didn't pitch a hell of a game? Garcia just dumb lucked his way through 6 innings and giving up just 2 runs against the Dodgers?![]()
We could go around about this all day and you would never be right, but it's ok to give up runs when facing Kershaw bc "no one was on base?"
I just don't think starting Wood in the rotation is our best option because I want him to be in the rotation come October.
Okay.
If we were the Royals, I might agree, but we are contenders. Garcia has no business starting for a contender.
Our best option with Wood is to move him to the pen and limit his innings for a month or so when Floyd comes back. That's a better option than giving starts to Garcia.
I have high hopes for Floyd but I don't think we should make plans based on him being in the rotation.
