School Choice - It's Time

Learning how to learn is the basic building block for everything.

Higher order thinking skills is something that is ingrained once the basics are learned and is dependent on the capacity of the individual student.

I agree with sentence #1. I agree somewhat with sentence #2 though I don't think ingrained is the best word for that. The "capacity of the individual student" is also true to a point, though it has been my experience that most students really have no idea or confidence in their ability to "higher order think". The ones who are sure they are the best at higher order thinking skills are usually the ones who are worst at it, and most of what they "think" is often closer to "regurgitate" than use their knowledge based learning experiences to explore and expand their ability to actually understand what the hell they were learning about in the first place.

I cannot think of a more useless organization than teachers unions, save for federal government

Ninety percent of Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) members reportedly vowed to strike if the Chicago Public School District returned teachers and students to in-person learning after winter break, according to polling data from the union.

Union members were asked to complete a survey titled “Possible Actions for Safety January 2022” by Dec. 27 in the lead-up to a Dec. 28 Zoom meeting. The survey results uncovered that 89% of CTU members said they would participate in “remote-work action,” or a strike against in-person work, according to results obtained by a school choice advocate who attended the union’s Zoom meeting.

Bet that won’t contribute to inequality one bit! Nope, blame capitalism!

To be clear, you have the causality flipped. It’s the existing inequality that would lead to some students being affected by this more than their peers.

Insanity. Its their insistence on voting for Progressives that create the inequality and this decision is exasperating it.

I think it’s a vicious cycle more than causality running in one direction

Not actually offering an opinion on how to best handle the inequality or whose fault it is. But if you think that at-home learning will lead to more economic inequality for a group, I think you’re missing the underlying problem. I agree that this will exacerbate the inequality, but disagree that it’s not still caused by the inherent economic inequality.

I've continually offered my opinion on attacking inequality.

1 - Economic opportunity through a populist message (This was working during Trumps presidency)
2 - Fund backpacks and not buildings (Public schools have failed underprivileged kids more than anyone)
3 - End the poison of victim mentality

It wont' happen overnight but within two decades there would be massive improvements.

Ya know, maybe the government shouldn’t be in charge of education.

You should never know how your teacher feels about a topic.

Even something as abhorrent as Nazism.

Mock it all you want - But teaching should just be providing information and not opinion.

Nah, there are some things that simply are unequivocally bad. Teaching about Nazis with the same tone we teach about Geometry is more morally bankrupt than any position you’ve brought up from the Left.
