According to one of the writers on Twitter (can't remember which) it will buy out two years of FA.

Not really. Only buys out 1 FA yr. He won't make 30 million in his arby yrs.
It's 2 FA years.
Next year is his first year of arby i think.
Ollie Perez to the DBacks for 2 years.
Philly supposedly interested in Ervin Santana.
Would love to snatch him up while he's desperate.
Would love to snatch him up while he's desperate.
For 1 year while costing a pick?
Yes. Would first check to see if he is desperate enough to agree to a friendly team option for a second year.
Losing a draft pick to get Santana wouldn't be that smart for the Braves.
I didn't expect you to think any different.
That's because Ervin Santana just isn't that good. He's had 2 good years out of 7 or 8 that he's been in the majors and 3 flat out horrible years.
What 3 years were flat out horrible? He has 3 seasons with a FIP over 5, and 2 of those were in a more offensive era. His only truly awful season was 2012.
Santana is a solid 2-3 WAR pitcher. I wouldn't give up a pick for him, but we could probably do a sign and trade with KC where we give them a few middling prospects.
So having a FIP over 5 in 3 different seasons doesn't qualify as having 3 seasons that were flat out horrible? Having only 2 years with a FIP under 4 makes him a solid pitcher?
Yes he is solid.
You have to remember that pre-2010 and post 2010 have different standards for pitching. Or maybe it was 2009.
Santana's fWAR by season were 1.7, 3.3, 1.1, 6.0, 1.1, 1.9, 2.6, -1.0, 3.0
His career ERA- is 100 which means he's exactly average, averages about 6.1 IP per start for his career as well. I'd call that solid. Being average and one of the better inning eaters.
