The Bryant contract includes a full no trade clause....

Forget Arenado, he’s on the decline. If they give Bryant that money and let Story walk then the owner should fire the GM immediately.

They are the same age so if Arenado is in decline Bryant will be too. It’s a ****ty deal regardless. It’s like they just did something so they can say they did something.

It does indeed seem like that. And it's stupid. But at least there's a stupid, tautological kind of logic to doing something just for the sake of doing something.

It's even more confusing from Bryant's perspective. But I'd have to assume no other team was even close to Colorado's offer, in terms of either dollars or years; and he probably figures the NTC will allow him to dictate where he winds up in two or three years, when the Rockies get desperate to move him and are willing to pay down half the contract to send him to some savvier team.

I want to assume that the Rockies signed him in order to trade him after a year to bulk up their farm system. I want to assume that was their thinking. But, then why throw in the NTC?

This is right. The locals here have been getting restless that ownership won't spend any money. Unfortunately, they just spent stupid money. I'm not sure that's going to help.

I'm loving all of this action in the last week.

I wish there was incentive for free agents to sign within 1-2 weeks at the start of the offseason. Then you have the Winter Meetings to work on trades to finalize your team.

That's what makes it so bad of a deal, from the Rockies' perspective.

Well that and the total dollars, total years, and total lack of ability for their team to contend in the near-future.
