Did not see this coming

I expect Correa to be the top target for AA next offseason.
Will have Jansen, Smith, Swanson all coming off the books. Who else?
This will probably be a 1 year deal for $35M after he opts out. If anyone still wonders how much opt outs lower the cost of the deal, this should be the obvious answer. Correa probably would have commanded $40M-$45M on a straight 1 year deal, but the twins were able to reduce the salary by assuming the risk of guaranteeing 3 years.

Duvall and maybe Morton
Yankees needed a shortstop, inquired about IKF, took on all of Donaldson’s contract just so the Twins could free up space to sign Correa…
You hate to see it
I expect Correa to be the top target for AA next offseason.
Does this fully signal AA has no interest in blocking the young arms? Are we expecting a piggyback scenario?
Would you use an opener for side advantages in the first inning and then shift to the piggyback? What is the 22 season going to look like for brave fans in the pitching side 2 out of 5 turns of the week? Playoffs were a lot of fun how we navigated those innings. Now we are even deeper with options.
I don’t think you can expect piggy back bc if the manager.
Also the roster is full if we keep these of. Plus isn’t there a cap on pitchers at 13? Yates may be dl for 60 days. But 5 starters and 7 relievers doesn’t give much piggy back options. And I’m assuming options restrictions means you can’t just bring up elder muller for their turn and then bring up wright Davidson for theirs to manage the roster
Great point on the roster flexibility.
Looks like this means they can only hope for one piggyback spot which would mean that they feel confident in most likely Ynoa can continue to give 5+ quality innings as he did prior to his injury last year. I think its a sensible gamble based on what was available on the market as well as internal options.
Still think they can add a starter on the cheap. Archer and Cueto are probably the 2 i'd go after.
I like Archer a lot. Peripherals are still pretty nice over past few seasons. Still induces a lot of swing and misses. Walk rate is roughly league average. I think a team with a good analytical department could probably get him straightened out.

Fangraphs has Braves at a projected 187.5M payroll. Not too shabby.
Have a feeling AA has kept some in reserve as well. Are the Braves now a 185-195M payroll team?
