5/30 GDT: Dbacks game 1

And apparently we have no adjustment wrench in the tool box.

It looks like Albies is adjusting. He’s sacrificing HR power for better bat control and more hits, but mostly singles. Not ideal, but that might be the name of the game this year when homers are at a premium.

Look at the current playoff field. Mlb ain't changing that ball if the big markets are the ones benefiting

I find it funny the biggest crybaby about the ball was the Mets, and they're almost certainly the team that has benefitted the most

Have you not been paying attention? We know the answer to this.

The new, dead ball. This actually concerns me more than most. If baseball is manipulating the ball to achieve certain results, what's stopping them from using different balls within the same game to achieve those ends? It would be a way MLB could put a thumb on the scales to try to get teams they want into the playoffs.

I am still floored that Snitker allowed Contreras to take an AB away from Harris (against a RHP) in the 9th inning last night instead of taking an AB away from Duvall. Those are the types of decisions that floor me. Thank goodness we have 1 WS title with this talent due to Snitker incompetence most nights.

Yup. WWE.

I mean they literally did this in the playoffs a few years ago which screwed the Braves tremendously in the series against the Cards. They changed the baseballs for the playoffs and the Braves (Acuna mainly) got screwed hard. It's just ****ing ****ty.

But for Olson specifically. There have been several balls that he has hit that would have been a homerun last year. The most recent example was his last double in Sundays game that went off the wall. That's a few rows deep last year. Just going by the eyeball test. With last years baseball Olson's overall stat line would look a lot like last year. He leads MLB in doubles. How many of those are bombs last year?

Duvall I think is done. His issue is likely a combination of a loss of bat speed and the dead baseball. A bad combo for someone his age where power was his calling card offensively.

I think part of Duvall's regression is natural. But I'd still expect him to be in 30's for PAs per HR. If his K rate had jumped to 50% or something like that then this would be more understandable. But his K rate and BB rate have been pretty steady. The lack of any carry to the balls he hits is kind of wild.

Just saw we face bumgarner tomorrow. Tonight is a must win bc we won't sniff a run against old man madison

I was just hoping for a temporary hot streak from waters while Harris got a month of AAA AB. I've never thought waters was a long term fix. Guess we'll see what happens with Harris, but I hope rushing him doesn't hurt him long term. I actually think he has long term potential, but i have a hard time seeing a ground ball machine work. I'd have liked to see him learn to lift in the minors.

Who mentioned strider? He has a 1.88 FIP and 0.8 fWAR in 28.2 ip.

It's NINE FRIGGING ABS.

Contreras is 2 for his last 8, and d'Arnaud is 2 for his last 12 - guess Alex needs to go searching for another Catcher, Strider gave up 5 EARNED RUNS last night - he's obviously much worse than Davidson who only gave up 1 earned in a longer stint his last outing. How on God's green earth can you preach patience with Strider and decide calling Harris up instead of a guy who's striking out in 36% of his ABs was a huge mistake?

I love "fans", but you are completely insufferable at times. If these guys were failures (or not ready) after their first 9 ABs, you'd decide to get rid of the vast majority of MLB players after watching them play for a WHOLE WEEKEND. Ozzie started his career 1 for 14 - should've sent him away. Chipper started 3 for 17 in 1995. There's a reason you wind up answering yourself at times - you sound like a 10 year old who has never seen a game a lot of the time. You don't even wait to comment on something until it becomes a small sample size - you think people should be sent back to the minors/traded/DFAd in between ABs.

Just chill a little - I promise the sun will come up Sunday even if Harris doesn't get another hit before then.

Honestly how is that play not ruled an error?

"Can't assume the douple play"???

What's there to assume. If he catches the ball the runner is out. There is no assumption on the fielder throw or the runners speed... It's purely a catch = out and he failed to catch it.

Just a dumb rule

if you dislike me so much, block me. I really couldn't care less. I promise you I'm not gonna read your sad blog.

I haven't written any "sad blog" in years, sorry. The point is that your knee-jerk reactions to things that don't even qualify as small sample sizes are unbearable a lot of the time. You act like the sky is falling every time someone goes 0-3, makes an error, or has a bad outing and that they're the worst player in baseball in one breath, then say "yeah, I overreact a little once in a while" when someone bumps a thread from the same time last season when the team was playing exactly the same way.

It's a LONG season, and I promise you you'll live longer if you don't act like the world is ending when they're struggling with 2/3 of a season left to be played. Your blood pressure has to be absolutely through the roof, and stats hint that that's not such a good thing.

I agree. Should be a case by case basis. I get it if the shortstop bobbles the ball and you can only get 1 out. But the 1B literally not catching a chest high throw? Come on.
