Spring Training Gamethread/Discussion

Always liked Pastor. I think he will be an average major league hitter as well. Just needs time to adjust.

BTW, Thomas having five walks this spring isn't a concern to me unlike Buchter's control issues. Thomas doesn't have a history of control issues like Buchter does. So it isn't really fair to talk about him like Buchter who has a track record as being wild. Plus Thomas can get both righties and lefties out, Buchter is nothing more than a lefty specialist IMO.

Thomas throws harder than I thought.

I still see him as underrated, I like his ability to be a starter too. If up to me I'd had him starting this spring with a shot to make the team as a starter (after the injuries to Medlen and Beachy). I believe he could be a better starter than both Hale and Garcia. He is similar to Wood in that he's a deceptive lefty that can do good starting or in relief. I truly believe he was a great find by us and given his age he needs a shot sooner rather than later, IMO.

Personally, I trust Hale more than I do Garcia. But I figure Hale goes down no matter what when Santana is ready. Garcia being a veteran will get every shot possible from Fredi to stay in the rotation (at least till Floyd is ready).

Yep. I agree. And Floyd returning is not something we should be considering a definite (at least not in early May).

Bad defense by Mets centerfielder gave Greene a gift double. They obviously took Legares out because that kid is great defensively (love his arm as well).

I think our bench will be really good again this year. Pena, Pastor provide versatility, Doumit I really like as a bench bat. Not a huge fan of Schafer or Georgie.

Is there any chance of Wren pursuing a better 4th OFer? Or did giving Schafer $1+ mil make that not likely?

Schafer is a good guy to have on the bench. Speed, base running, and solid defense in the outfield.

Gavin Floyd will throw two innings in a minor league game on Friday; Mike Minor on Saturday. #Braves

@mlbbowman Barring any setbacks, Floyd and Minor could both join Atlanta's rotation at some point during the week of April 20-26
