Braves acquire No. 35 pick in MLB Draft for Drew Waters and more

150% in favor of this type of deal. Took a player with low (and cratering) value, sold Dayton the dream (look at his shiny former prospect status!) along with a few spare parts that likely would never make the MLB team nor would have any independent meaningful value in a trade, and exchanged that for a possible impact prospect (or spreading that $2M over several players with upside).

I'm not sure how people can count their chickens on this move. WE don't know who they'll pick. Maybe it will be another soft tossing college lefty. They have passed up on lots of high upside guys that have a lot of value now.

MLB draft is tough. Yes, you can still get cost controlled talent. Yes the Braves have a lot of guys that are home grown on the winning, MLB team. But it is also true that the MLB draft is very hard to predict and most guys take a long time to contribute. Under AA the early picks have mostly been trash, it's been the later round guys.

This isn't about just one pick though.

This trade facilitates a whole strategy throughout the draft.

AA took a look at the minors and realizes the cupboard is pretty bare. He wants to restock and take a swing at a high upside talent. They reached the conclusion that Waters is not someone who was going to help our team, or that someone with his skill set is easy to find and replace.

Benintendi is hitting nearly at a .850 OPS clip against RHP with gold glove defense in LF. An even better platoon partner than Rosario for Duvall. I hope we reach out to the Royals again before the trade deadline.

Got the 35th pick in the draft for spare parts. This was a steal.

I don't think Waters is quite spare parts at this point, but not a top trade chip anymore either...

I wonder if there is anything else still in this deal. It is not finalized and I wonder if KC makes it a bit more spicy for us with a MLB player too?

Hand wringing over Waters is comical. As if the Braves didn't give him chances of try different development methods with him. He gone. Hoffman, a little surprised he was included. He's pretty polished....think he will be solid.

Would Kansas City take Rosario? I'd prefer Benintendi, too, but there'd be zero use for Rosario.

I don't see how Benintendi makes sense. They just going to bench ROsario after giving him a 2 year deal?

Think we go elsewhere for a bat.
