Braves acquire No. 35 pick in MLB Draft for Drew Waters and more

This isn't about just one pick though.

This trade facilitates a whole strategy throughout the draft.

But that is a GIANT guess on your part. They could just pick someone they like there and pay 2 million.

And the guys they have like in that area are the NB kid with TJ, Shewmake, etc,

Hand wringing over Waters is comical. As if the Braves didn't give him chances of try different development methods with him. He gone. Hoffman, a little surprised he was included. He's pretty polished....think he will be solid.

The issue people are raising is, are these not guys who could be used for another bullpen piece capable of closing (Jansen's ability to go back-to-back days isn't a slam dunk; Yates shouldn't be assumed as a sure thing; Minter and Matzek are more effectively deployed in high-leverage spots before the ninth), a better alternative at second base than Arcia/Gosselin/over-the-hill Cano, or a long-term solution in LF? Hopefully, we turn this into a really good draft pick. AA hasn't given me a reason not to trust him.

And they could have still been targeting this person for 2M elsewhere and it would have taken away from allotted money to other targets.

Benentindi has been rumored to the yankees for a while...i expect they wanted more than what we'll offer. Especially pre deadline.

I was thinking we'd get merrifeld in a deal like this.

I don't think Waters is quite spare parts at this point, but not a top trade chip anymore either...

I wonder if there is anything else still in this deal. It is not finalized and I wonder if KC makes it a bit more spicy for us with a MLB player too?

Waters is a 40+ FV prospect having a bad year. His stock just continues to fall. That 35th pick carries more trade value than he does (looking at Fangraphs value chart from a couple of years ago) which is evident since it took 2 additional players to land it.

i'll just say I'll hold my judgement to see what they actually do.

Still mad at them passing on Corbin and Espino in 2019 draft. I like the Langeliers pick, to be fair, but Corbin was my guy. I thought Espino with pick two was a lock.

I could still be really wrong. Did not think Strider would be in MLB, much less an impact guy in two years. Loved Harris as an upside guy but never saw this. Figured I was spectacularly wrong on Wright until this year.

Think he was saying using who we pick in a deal to get someone at the end of the month. There is no rule on trading recently drafted players anymore. I don't think.

I could be wrong, but I think you still have to make it to the end of the WS before trading a drafted player.

I can't remember, there used to be some weird rule about trading new prospects, but then it changed... I just don't know how much.
