2022 Trade Deadline

Hosmer has a no trade clause and has not agreed to the deal yet. Lol... if I were him, I wouldn't agree to go to the Nats

Dumb. The Nationals should’ve made the Padres throw in another prospect to move their money for them.

meh.. you get a 2-3 win player for 13 million for the next 3 years... Not impossible to think the Friars might be throwing some cash the gNats way too.. They needed the roster spot more than the money.

Nationals on his 10 team No Trade list... you'd think with Boras representing both players he'd have already given then Nats an idea of whether he'd waive it or not?

There’s no way I’d agree to go to the Nats if I was Hosmer. Why would he? I’d tell the Padres to eat ****.

Lol, no they don’t. They need prospects more than they need anything. Taking Hosmer should be a way to sweeten the deal.

Let’s see if this move can finally get Preller’s Padres to that ever elusive 80 win season he’s been chasing for the last decade.

They already got their prospects. The gNats are not going to hold the Friars hostage over Hosmer.. they would just cut him before adding another player to get rid of him. This was GM staying in 'good faith' with each other and the gNats betting on Hosmer producing enough to justify the 13 mill or being able to trade him.

I think we need to see full terms before judging, and to see if Hosmer excepts trade.. but I would bet the Friars will cut him if he doesn't.

This is what I meant when I said the package for Soto wasn’t going to be some insane thing. The Nats got a good haul, but they also added Bell and took on Hosmer’s dead money.

The idea that the package was going to be some earth shattering thing was always silly.

They traded a FV 60 (11th overall)
FV 50 (41st overall)
FV 50 (66th overall)
FV 40+

For Soto and Bell??
The Nats got ripped off. That's insane no one tried to swoop in and top that.

And they unloaded Hosmer's cash. The narrative that Soto had earth earth shattering trade value was always silly.

That was before Gore was added.. and the Hosmer deal is still up in the air.

Gore and Hosmer roughly even each other out value wise.

Bell was probably worth the 40+ by himself.

Soto for a 60 and a couple 50s is precisely the type of deal I expected, and hardly some earth shattering monster package.

Yeah but McKenzie Gore was also added... that makes it a bit more palatable. But if they are trying to get MLB young players/prospects, they should have just built a core around Soto and Turner lol

Also there was just a report from Bowden on Twitter that the Nats would only be responsible for $8 million of Hosmer's contract.

I agree.. you are getting 2.4 years of 4-8 wins, but you are going to be paying 25-30 million for those wins each year.

Sounds like Homser's not happy... hard to blame him. If he's dealt and the Nats are only paying $8 million of his remaining contract... that's substantially different
