GDT 8/13/22 Game 1: Braves @ Fish - Tromp and Muller team up

Riley is picking today. As long as he doesn't have to dive or go more than a couple of feet laterally he's legit.

That is what's interesting with our future SS situation. Even if we get a Correa....will we have a big problem if our SS can't cover a ton of ground?

harris is flirting with a 333 OBP. IF he can manage that this year, that is amazing given his number of at bats. Makes me think a 350 OBP is possible for him.

acuna still not himself. So many ground balls. Ball still hit hard but on the ground too much. That just found a hole.

Klaw's write up. Maybe I'm not remembering him correctly.

I have to think someone would value a LH with upside, who is likely to be a cheap innings eater. Maybe to the Orioles with Ozuna next year?

pitches with enough feel and deception to project him as a mid-rotation starter. He sat 93-94 with very high spin, actually getting more RPMs on the four-seamer than either his curveball or slider. Neither breaking ball is that sharp but hitters don’t distinguish the pitches that well, with his curveball’s spin axis diametrically opposed to those of the fastball and slider. He barely used his changeup last year and may need to work it in more against right-handers, although it wasn’t a major issue for him in his 36 innings with the big club. He also moved his fastball around within the zone quite well, avoiding the heart of the plate to minimize hard contact. He’s 6-foot-7 and strong, with the weapons to start, and while there’s always been reliever concern I think he’s answered a lot of those questions now.

Last year and earlier this year he was getting 8” of rise on the fastball. That’s not good, especially at 93.

“Neither breaking ball is sharp”.

Color me unimpressed.

He has enough tools and skills that’s he’s still a very good player even without the power. I’m optimistic that a full off-season to rest and strengthen his legs he will be able to lift the ball again.

Meanwhile, people on Twitter are bitching about his defense. It's incredible.

It's still not average. The bar is high. IT's MLB starting 3B, not you in HS.

Another thing that could help him, as he is not a small man, is to not play every f'n day. IF we can dump Ozuna and Grissom is good, maybe you have a plan where Olson, Albies, SS, Riley and Grissom all play. With guys spending a day at DH to keep their legs fresh.

i get Ozuna's money. But his roster spot is almost as bad. Really want him gone. Somebody would take him for 2/10 million right?

unimpressed but useful. Wonder if he's more valuable on our team as a spot starter, depth guy or in trade for someone else to dream on. For him, probably best he gets traded.

agree he is still good. he is that special. It's also why versatile players are so prized now vs guys that just mash.

I'm not sure it's a leg strength issues. It could be swing path.

He had a major injury and an unusual offseason with the lock out. I think he'll figure it out b/c he's special.

I'm not opposed to this, but his defense is far down the list of concerns on the team. Not a single game comes to mind for me that his defense or "lack of range" cost us.

I too want Ozuna gone. Who are we packaging with him, and who should we expect in return?

i would love to break it open here. Save minter, janson, iglesias, yates for second game.

7 or 8 runs would be nice.

The correct play was to not extend Olson so Riley could move to 1B in a couple years. As it currently stands he will probably slide to 1B/DH when Ozuna is gone.
