GDT 8/13/22 Game 1: Braves @ Fish - Tromp and Muller team up

By all means, let's empty the bullpen in this game with another one coming tonight and Ian Anderson starting and then another game tomorrow.

Nah, let’s run out a tired mediocre pitcher with a 2 run lead just in case the game tonight is close.

Why increase the likelihood of winning a game right now that’s guaranteed to be close when you could save arms just in case you might need to preserve a close game later?

Nice play Riley!! Double play

That play and the bare hand play early were why I don't think Riley is a bad defender. He has the arm and some instincts. He comes in. He's competent IMO.

But I can see the range issues. I can see that he doesn't have special hands.

If 3-spot hitter hits a 3-run hr, no one on for cleanup. Maybe I'm wrong... is any team top 10 in both groups or all 3 groups?

You’re….missing the point.

The flex is that the lineup is so good even the bottom drives in a ton of runs. As evidence they show that the bottom has driven as many as the top and middle.

While it’s true that the bottom has a lot of rbi, comparing it to a group with mediocre rbi in no way proves that point.

The correct stat is to say “hey look, the bottom third has the most rbi in baseball”. Not, “hey look, this group has the same rbi as this mediocre group”.

It’s also known as building a logical argument by relying on relevant facts that prove the point in question.

I agree. Riley doesn’t have the athleticism to ever be a good defensive 3B, but I think he’s skilled enough to be respectable.

Gotcha... I did say I'm drunk haha

He's throwing strikes but it appears to be by sacrificing stuff. he's not usually throwing 93 is he?

I can’t remember what I wrote about Muller’s stuff, but the fact I can’t remember tells me it’s nothing worth remembering.

I do remember a lot of talk about muller in the high 90s, then he shows up for the Texas start back in May and was thoroughly underwhelming.

I still prefer muller as a high leverage RP where he's throwing 96.

If this is him I think he's a long man in the Pen or an innings eater on a team who is not really trying to win.

Yes, why use the best pitchers in a high leverage scenario just in case you may encounter high leverage innings in a future game?

Win this game now because it’s a winnable game now.

Bird-in-hand versus getting two birds stoned at once.

Klaw's write up. Maybe I'm not remembering him correctly.

I have to think someone would value a LH with upside, who is likely to be a cheap innings eater. Maybe to the Orioles with Ozuna next year?

pitches with enough feel and deception to project him as a mid-rotation starter. He sat 93-94 with very high spin, actually getting more RPMs on the four-seamer than either his curveball or slider. Neither breaking ball is that sharp but hitters don’t distinguish the pitches that well, with his curveball’s spin axis diametrically opposed to those of the fastball and slider. He barely used his changeup last year and may need to work it in more against right-handers, although it wasn’t a major issue for him in his 36 innings with the big club. He also moved his fastball around within the zone quite well, avoiding the heart of the plate to minimize hard contact. He’s 6-foot-7 and strong, with the weapons to start, and while there’s always been reliever concern I think he’s answered a lot of those questions now.
