GDT 8/27/22: Braves @ Cardinals - Acuña Overdid It

I think Jansen will be fine as well, Snit just needs to treat him like the 3rd best reliever on the team. My problem is that it was obvious he didn’t have any command tonight. None. Should have gone to somebody else after he hit Arenado with 2 strikes. But managers don’t do that, ever, with “closers”. Which I think is stupid.

not sure why msstate getting **** for pointing out objective facts

Jansen has been mediocre at best for a couple of months. it is what it is

It’s not just msstate and it’s not just tonight. This junk has gone in all season. Am I saying don’t get frustrated after a loss like this? No. This was a frustrating loss no doubt. But games like this tend to bring out the worst out of the same people. Even in wins sometimes, there is griping about something. And some of the stuff posted has been ridiculous. From saying how the heart of the team is with the Dodgers now, to saying Acuna is an average player, and how can we forget(though I wish we could) the infamous “Would you rather have Matt Olson as your first baseman or have AIDS?”.

As fans, we get frustrated with our teams when they lose a game. I get it. I do as well. But it tends to get overboard on these game threads. It’s the reason why I don’t participate as much as I used to. When I see some of the nonsense these game threads have, it’s just not enjoyable. It’s like I’m dealing with teenagers getting over a breakup or something.

Just my two cents worth.

"It's not just msstate..." and then proceed to say all the stuff I say haha. Ok, maybe I go overboard every now and then....

Or....

Every night

Haha

I do give you credit though. At least you can laugh at yourself. Lord knows I give enough material for people to laugh at me. I think most of it coming from me being a Dallas Cowboys fan

Braves are still good, and they still have a great chance at winning it all. That said, Mets prob nailed down the division tonight, so this loss wasn't insignificant

Maybe. But maybe not since the Braves have three more head-to-head against the Mets and NY plays the Dodgers this week. Whatever happens, happens. This team very easily makes the playoffs regardless and has as good of a shot of grabbing a title this year as anyone.

What I do know is that using a small sample size to constitute a guy's work is silly. Kenley is among baseball's best in XBA, XSLG, WOBA, XWOBA, XWOBACON, hard-hit%, K%, BB%, and XERA; and his visuals are great. I am not a Snit guy at all, but folks pining to pull Kenley after signs of trouble as if he hasn't been given the right to try and work out of something is hilarious. Total recency bias.

Since June...
18 games (38% of his total appearances)
4.59 FIP
5.20 xFIP
5.40 bb9

ETA...the horrendous walk rate is a huge issue bc he can't hold runners. A walk will most likely become a double.

The walk rate for 2021-current is 4.09 per 9. He walks too many guys.

Also seems Kenley’s velo has dropped a few MPH since the start.

i could be wrong but I remember him sitting 93-95 to start this season. Last night he was 90-93. He did touch 94 and 95 once or twice I think but they were way out of the zone.

he wasn’t getting any missed swings.

i know he’s throwing a 2-seamer and a cutter so the velo isn’t gonna be high 90’s. But still worrying that every cards hitter fouled his best pitches.

I think Jansen’s weird delivery & high release point are designed to mess with the hitter, but they seem to cause wildness/lack of focus.

People act like we are facing deGrom today and that the division is over bc of 1 game lol. I’m not worried about the Cardinals. The Mets play the Dodgers starting Tuesday while we play the Rockies at home. I still like our chances.

It's the Mets' schedule after the dodgers that concerns me. Making up ground on them is gonna really difficult. Last night was a gut punch on our attempt to catch them. Seems like every time we get it to around a game, they immediately expand it back out some.

They don’t expand it out we do. They Mets don’t control if we win or lose the Braves do. As long as we play like we are capable we’ll be fine. I still think us and the Dodgers are the 2 best teams in baseball. Us losing to the Reds to start the season had just as much of an impact on our record as the game yesterday did. It’ll be a close race right down to the wire and that’ll keep us sharp going into the playoffs versus having a 10 game lead.

All I said was, we face Waino in a Sunday night game in St. Louis, where he tends to own us. We counter with our fifth starter. And the Mets have Scherzer going against the Rockies today.

Mets schedule after the Dodgers series is the bigger concern. We still have two series left with the Phillies, on the road against the Mariners and Giants. Mets schedule is literal cake after the Dodgers series. Even if say the Dodgers swept them, unlikely, Mets still have the advantage. Every time we get it to 1/1.5/2, it goes up to 3, 4 again. Tonight is a big mismatch too with Waino vs Odo while the Mets have Scherzer on the hill.

Sometimes good teams lose games to other good teams in the 9th inning.

It’s probably best not to kill yourself over it.

The real shame is Heredia finally got a start vs a LHP and went 0-2. So now with that sample set of 2 PAs fresh in Snit’s head there won’t be any platooning with Harris.
