GDT 8/28/22: Braves @ Cardinals - The Rubber Match

Well, that 2006 should’ve been a wild card. They underplayed their expected W/L by 10 games. That was the weakest year in NL history. That 2006 team only scored 50 less runs than the 2003 team. With Wainright to go with Smoltz and Hudson, we would’ve been tough to beat.

Still hurts every time I replay in my mind Chipper straining his oblique in the batter's box... we were the hottest team in baseball with the Mets coming into Turner Field.

Hello Danys Baez and Willy Aybar.

Waino also might've helped us reach the playoffs in 2009. But wasn't that the year the Rockies won like 22 of 24 down the stretch?

No, that was 2007. The Rockies scuffled down the stretch in 2009 and the Braves were red hot. Not sure what Wainwright could’ve done for that team, since we had the best rotation in the league that year.

Considering he was 19-8 with a 2.63 ERA and third in Cy Young voting, he would have been preferable to Kawakami.

Hello Danys Baez and Willy Aybar.

Still can’t believe JS traded a useful super-utility player like Betemit for trash can Danys Baez.

So let’s pivot to this controversial debate…

AA is a better GM or will be a better GM then Schuerholt?

Considering Bobby built the core of the 90's team before JS arrived...

The 2005 baby braves outside of McCann did not do anything for us to help us get to the playoffs after that year.

Looking at JS's midseason trades just at the start of the century...

2000 - Andy Ashby, BJ Surhoff
2001 - Rey Sanchez
2002 - ?
2003 - ?
2004 - Tom Martin
2005 - Farnsworth
2006 - Baez, Aybar
2007 - Tex

Lest we forget he unloaded Kevin Millwood for basically 1.5 good seasons of Johnny Estrada. Unloaded Wilson Betemit for Baez and Aybar to try and keep the streak alive.

So far, AA has won most of his trades.

Schuerholz gets credit for two World Series titles (Braves and Royals) plus 14 straight division titles in Atlanta. AA would have to staple three WS wins to his resume to build a strong argument over JS IMO.

I have PTSD of all the times Bobby called on Greg Norton and it failed.

My goodness, the ESPN broadcast just jumped the shark with Wainwright's singing performance. Makes me want to stick q-tips in my ears.
