Assuming he doesn’t decide to retire, do we bring him back for $20M next year?
I would. He is still worth 20 million.
I'm not against bringing him back but I need to assess the opportunity cost of exercising that option.
It is the opportunity of getting a 3+ Win pitcher at 20 million.
That said would Charlie get 20 million on the FA market. I guess that is the question. But in todays market. 20 million for a Morton type is a bargain. Heck we gave Hamels 18 million and he was t even healthy.
Having Morton as one of your five starters with the other four being who they are is a luxury. We would still have depth in AAA. And that would finish the rotation so we only would have a few holes to fill
I'm waiting out Degrom first. This team is so good its worth it for me to spend 80M for 2 years of hoping Degrom gives us a better shot at winning and make us clear cut favorites.
Just dreaming...can you imagine a Starting Rotation of
Degrom
Strider
Fried
Wright
Soroka
That may have to be the best rotation ever constructed in Atlanta.
That’s a lot of injuries waiting to happen.
I have a feeling at the end we finish trading Soroka away.
Maybe talk to him and see if he would come back for 12-14 million if the team declined the option?
Why sell low? Both have options. You need depth.I doubt it. Ian more likely
Morton probably just retires if that conversation happens.
We should offer him another deal.
Takes less for next year and another option for 2024. If we decline the buyout would just be the difference of what he took less for.
Sell him on the idea of getting DeGrom.
