GDT: Gnats vs. Braves. 20 Sept 22 7:20pm

DeGrom has made what 9 starts this season.

I doubt he commands what people think he will. He hasn't tossed more than 92 innings in the last three seasons.

I could be wrong but FO guys won't see that as a wise 40 M investment.

you just nurse Jake to the playoffs and then unleash the 40 million dollar terror. Someone is going to gamble on his clout alone.

The only team that will pay deGrom what Scherzer got is the Mets. Every team knows his durability issues and paying 40 million for a dude that brittle isn’t wise at all.

I don’t put anything past AA. Jansen came out of nowhere this past offseason and at 18 million. I don’t see us getting him but a lockdown bullpen proved last year it wins you a WS.

Braves only had a lockdown bullpen in the playoffs last year. They were solid in the regular season, but it wasn’t like they were the 2015 Royals.

Best case for us is we can run the price tag up to 50 per on the Mets

If Charlie retires, we're at 137 before arb. Dansby, DeGrom, arb players and a BP piece, would probably put us in the luxury tax. Not sure if AA has that kinda spending power. We can probably do Dansby, one of those lesser arms that cv said in the 15-20M range, and some depth pieces for the BP and OF to get us just under the luxury tax. Best guess is Mets overpay for DeGrom.

Just for *hits and giggles, let's assume Alex has ~ $55 million (including Morton's $20 million) to go shopping with. While dangerous, I'd pass on ALL the big-ticket SSs including Swanson. We know Grissom isn't going to be Dansby with the glove, but we DON'T know that he won't be good enough there.

1.) Spend $10 million of that before the market even gets started (like AA always seems to like to do) on Iglesias and Luke Jackson to cover the defensive and pen depth concerns and be done with everything that everyone else always seems to wait on. If Grissom proves that he can't handle SS defensively, you have almost $12 million you can shave off the books in 2024 (passing on the options for Yates and McHugh) plus the $5-$6 million you give Iglesias when Rosario and Kiner-Falefa become free-agents.

2.) Solve the LF and #2 hole hitter concerns for the rest of the window by going out and giving Nimmo 4 years/$60 million to hit between Acuna and Riley. That would give you Gold Glove level defense in LF, and your backup for Harris in CF plus the ability to hit Harris lower in the lineup to continue to make it so hard on opposing Pitchers to find a place to catch their breath. With Nimmo in the #2 hole, you could be looking at a completely balanced lineup with Ozzie hitting 8th and Grissom/Iglesias hitting 9th. You'd have Rosario and Ozuna as bench bats and potential DHs if Contreras spends any time behind the plate.

3.) Go make Rodon make a really tough decision with what's left. Offer him 3 years/$90 million with an option for a fourth. Rosario, Ozuna, and Raisel will all be off the books at the point you have to make a decision on his option.
