GDT: Braves @ Phillies Game 4: Avoid the Death Blow

I’ve never seen a team so dead. From the start of the game they just seemed like they didn’t wanna be there.

Aside from a couple in game moves. I still think Snit made the right calls from the pitching perspective.

Our whole stretch run was characterized by good pitch selection.

Don‘t think so, it was just less bad than now. Also, players seem to become less and less selective the longer they are on the team. You could really see it with Olson. This „see ball, hit ball“ approach definitely seems to be an organizational choice

I could even live with five and have the wild cards play an actual series (3-games in a row). This isn’t hard to figure out.

I would not entirely opposed to going back to just an East and West and make the 162 really mean something. I agree that random teams often win it, but we act as if the team had no control over how it would play this series. Many of their weaknesses got magnified in a do or die series. So this really isn’t surprising. What’s a bit surprising is how the starting pitching let us down.

WC round was 3 game series in a row. What am I missing here?

The fact that we had 6 teams, not 5.

The fact that the Division Series isn’t 7 games.

The fact that a division winner had to play in the Wild Card series.

The fact that there was no reseeding for some inexplicable reason.

Your weaknesses only get magnified if you’re not the hot team. The Phillies have many more weaknesses than us, and none of them are getting magnified.

Poor defense, poor bullpen, poor bottom of the lineup, etc.

to me, the whole point of a long baseball season is due to the game being fluky game to game. that’s why i’ve always been in favor of less, but longer, series being played.
