Official official offseason thread

Yankees top prospects are shortstops. They're actually in a tough spot with Judge, the top free agents are shortstops, their top prospects are shortstops and they still have Gleyber. Only other top outfielder is Nimmo. Yankees pitching is mostly fine, the offense is a serious issue though.

Sign the SS. Trade the ss prospect for Bryan Reynolds. Cruz wasn't good defensively at ss.

This probably won't happen, but I'm preparing myself for the big boys all pursuing SS when we need one

I dont think the Yankees will be in the SS market, this winter. I guess if Judge goes, they gotta spend on something.

Other than Dansby/shortstop. Biggest questions imo.

- Do we look to move Pina to shed some money? Teams across the league lack catchers. Not sure what we'd get in return though. I guess if we keep Pina, we could make Contreras the full-time DH, if we move Ozuna also.
- Can AA somehow move Ozuna without adding a good prospect, and how much money would we have to eat on the deal. Same with Rosario.
- I'd guess Odo opts out, he would get more than 6.5/6 on the open market.
- Probably need another bullpen arm. Current arms are Yates, Iggy, Lee, Minter, and McHugh. Would expect one top tier arm added here.
- DeGrom talk is fun but currently have Fried, Morton, Strider and Wright. With Muller, Soroka, Anderson, Elder among others for that 5th spot.

Interesting offseason ahead.

Yankees' top prospects may all be SSs, but they could be traded to any number of takers if the Yankees decided to sign Correa or Turner. If Judge leaves, they are going to need hitters.

I don't think Pina would fetch anything of note and I could never really figure out that signing in the first place. I'm guessing he sticks--at least in the early going--with Contreras becoming the full-time DH.

Dumping Ozuna and Rosario should be near the top of the to-do list other than addressing the SS position, but like you say the question becomes how much salary do we pick up and/or what level of prospect do we attach to rid ourselves of them. That said, they have to be replaced. I really love Nimmo's game and I'm curious to see his market.

Back to Swanson. Obviously the biggest question and while avoiding Freeman redux would be ideal, I think Swanson (as probably the 3rd/4th guy in the SS sweepstakes) will wait until the big dominoes fall before making his decision.

We’ve never had to think about the luxury threshold, but a pretty big downside to all these extensions is how they impacted the cap number. From the article:

“a bit more than $217MM in luxury obligations — only about $16MM shy of next year’s $233MM first-tier threshold.“

Needless to say, AA isn’t getting Swanson for $16M AAV. He probably isn’t getting Conforto for that price either. He will be lucky to get Iglesais, Grossman and a BP arm for that much cash.

So did AA screw up with all these extensions, or are the Braves about to live above the cap?

Given the ink isn’t even dry on these extensions, I assume AA had a really good view and understanding of the luxury tax implications. Who we sign at SS will inform us where the Braves expect to live payroll wise.

you also have McGuirk publicly stating he wants to increase payroll too.

my hopes and dreams is to get rid of both our useless LF (OBoozuna and RaSorrio) If we get rid of them, then anything else after that is gravy in my world.

I'm still predicting a relatively sedate offseason, especially once shortstop is settled.

We dont really have a ton of needs minus shortstop, and probably another pen arm. If AA could move Ozuna and/or Rosario, that would be even better.

I dont want to rain on anyones parade but: Did Spotrac or the MLBTrumors articles include Michael Harris II contract money. I cant see it in the Spotrac figures nor does the said article seem to include it in their figures.
