Official official offseason thread

I'd guess 4/100. Which is fine for AAV and would only take him into his age 32 season. Probably gotta go 6 years to get him imo. Not sure if AA will go to 8-9 years for Turner or Correa even if they're superior players.

Braves have been linked to Turner and Correa a little bit, but i am curious if AA has the funds to get either of them. None of us know that. If we're not gonna give Swanson a market level deal which is the right move. I think keeping Swanson is the right move if the contract isnt what Heyman or that agent predict, but if it is, i cant see AA going to that level of money. As jpx said, i'm also most curious how AA plans to get off Ozuna/Rosario, because they were black holes especially in October. Dont know if he'll try a crazy swap like Yelich but need to upgrade there or hope Malloy is ready quick lol.

Not that either were any good before October either, but October performance is how we ended up with Rosario for 2 years. Maybe October performance shouldn't be weighted so heavy going forward. Again, they sucked before October too though

I like the idea of getting Burnes with a possible Yelich swap. Adding Burnes to this rotation would almost make it unstoppable. I’d almost rather go hard after Brian Reynolds for LF. Grissom, Anderson, Shuster, Malloy would probably do it. He’s controlled for 3 more years and would be a difference maker in the field and lineup

Cashman pretty much said they wont be in on the big name shortstops yesterday at his presser. If Judge leaves, i'm interesting what their alternative plan would be though.

It would surprise me if the Yankees get in the SS market as the situation currently stands, but like you say, if Judge leaves what's the Plan B and how do they make a splash? Watching they Yankees in the post-season, that's not a great line-up.

The biggest thing here is that we are in our contention window and Swanson has been a big part of that especially this year. We can’t replace him with a random guy who is decent with the glove and hits a little. It either needs to be Swanson or somebody better than Swanson. AA knows this and has a plan. He’ll give Swanson x amount of time to accept an offer or he’ll move on the plan B who I hope is Turner or Correa. And before anybody says why would he pay those 2 when he can sign Swanson for less, they are better players moving forward than Swanson and that’s what you’ll be paying for.

you can replace him with someone just solid if you upgrade elsewhere though.

Adames or Rosario with an upgrade in LF would replace him. We'd basically replace him with Albies though, we barely had him last year.

Adames would come a lot closer to replacing Swanson than Rosario. The former had twice the fwar last year (4.7 vs 2.4), and is controllable twice as long (2 years arb vs 1).

The return of Albies should help, and it's nice to have Grissom and Malloy waiting in the wings; but, offensively, LF is really the only place to substantially upgrade, so the bigger the gulf between Swanson and his replacement, the more pressure there is to make that LF upgrade massive.

Obviously, beyond LF, there's plenty of room to add another TOR SP.

It can be argued that SS is a bit more of a premier position, but your basic point is on the mark. If the Braves upgraded LF, they could give a little bit of offense at SS provided they weren't sacrificing too much on defense as well. Dansby's strength right now is that he's developed into a nice combination of offense and defense. That makes him harder to replace in a simple swap of shortstops, but when you look at all the moving parts, things get a little easier.

Really hoping we can upgrade the bench enough this offseason to where we don't have a human mascot sitting on it -- but with Snit refusing to play bench players, does it even mater?

Yeah, Heredia is nice in the clubhouse but he's a total waste of a roster spot. The bench will totally depend what AA can do with Rosario and Ozuna this winter, they're taking up money and two key roster spots. At a minimum, we have Pina (if he's not traded), Contreras, and Arcia off the bench right now pending what happens to Rosario and Ozuna. Although i guess Contreras could be the DH.

Mets closing in on keeping Diaz for 5 years/102 million. Confirmed by Passan.

If the Mets sign deGrom for between 30-40 million for next year, they are giving approximately 100 million to 3 pitchers when their offense was their main problem last year.

Their offense is mostly locked in next year minus Nimmo. Pretty much all their pitching is up for free agency. Bassit, Walker, DeGrom, maybe Carrasco, Ottavino, Lugo, among some others as well.
