Official official offseason thread

Tomorrow at 5pm people can sign wherever they want. Any surprises right out of the gate?

Maybe someone accepts the QO? But it usually takes a few days before people sign, maybe a reliever signs.

From Toscano on twitter, interesting tweet lol:

I asked Scott Boras if he could see the Braves going after Correa or Bogaerts (his clients).

He said ATL seems to have clear opinions on the SS market.

"I would say, clearly, the Braves have a pecking order among the shortstops, no doubt,” Boras added as part of his answer.

Also said:

The fifth-starter spot, Alex Anthopoulos said, will be an open competition.

Ian Anderson, Mike Soroka, Kyle Muller, Kolby Allard and Bryce Elder will be in the mix for the job.

Given ATL's SP depth, would Alex Anthopoulos rule out pursuing high-end starting pitching?

“You don't rule anything out,” he said. “To me, you don't go into the offseason saying you have to address X. Because you may not find the right deal, whether that's trade or signing."

I would be shocked if AA got another starter. I think trying to dump Ozuna and/or Rosario is 1st then SS, LF, and BP

This is a very specific answer that could get interpreted in different ways. I do think it implies that the Braves are talking to agents about shortstops. Boras is typically very opinionated on teams that go the cheap route.

Take it for what it's worth but DOB mentioned last night that the Braves won't be a luxury tax team. Maybe it's accurate but that seemingly goes against the top-5 payroll narrative we've heard, correct? And how in the hell would they sign a decent player if that's the case? With that info, they'd have like $19M to play with, I think.

Spotrac has us at 186 after everything, says the tax is 233, so that would give us slightly under 50 to work with? Dont think anyone in the media knows how much we have to work with.

Exactly. And he's been pushing the Dansby trade over the last few days as if Swanson alone won't push us over the threshold. I just don't see a logical scenario where we don't cross it... and I'm sure he'll back track the second we do.

We basically have to go over the tax to sign anyone worth a **** this winter. Spotrac says our luxury tax salary is 214 so we'd have 19 million like you said and that can maybe buy an outfielder and a bullpen arm. Way way short for a shortstop. Those extensions put us against the tax lol.

Fangraphs has us at 228, and the thresholds are 233, 253, 270+ and last one is 293 which i doubt we'll cross.

Alex has his moments but he's not a dumbass. haha that's why I'm guessing DOB is just doing that thing where his "sources" are way wrong.

Rumblings about Trea Turner and Philly. Would hate to see him go there, but would be a perfect fit, and they shedded the salaries of Eflin and Segura, Stott probably moves to 2B.
Turner and Harper’s wife are extremely close. According to the Phillies fans I deal with on a daily basis, it’s a done deal already.

Hard to say if it's a done deal, but Philly unfortunately makes a ton of sense especially after letting go of Eflin/Segura which saved 30+ million.

The Phillies just made a run to the WS and need a SS so it all makes sense I just hope it doesn’t happen. I’d rather see him go back to LA.

I’m sure Dansby and the Braves have been in touch since the season ended and with nothing done yet that says a lot.

He probably wants to test free agency. Not really sure what kinda market he has.

He has earned the right to be a FA and if the Braves haven't given him an offer to his liking, at this point, he is going to do his due diligence and see what other teams value him at. Honestly, I feel at this point in the FA process, there is a higher chance that he leaves than I did at the same point with Freeman. Freeman had said this is where his heart was and he didn't want to be anywhere else. Bae hasn't really gone that far in his statements. Having the same agent as Freeman, Dansby knows whats up. If he wants to come back, it will be less than what other teams offer. If he wants the $$$, it will be with another team.

At the end of the day, Chipper has it right. How much money is enough? If you want to stay at your home, you are already going to be getting generational wealth. How much is enough?

actually salaries and lux tax salaries are not the same. we are over 210 mill in lux salaries this year. I think around 220 or so.
