Official official offseason thread

Dansby, come on down.

I've felt he was gone all offseason, but now I think differently

I don't think $4 million is all what would be holding up a re-signing of Dansby. But the math could work out if AA is on a tight budget. The gap between our reported offer and his reported counter is $38 million over 6 years, so roughly $6.33 million on annual average. If they met halfway-ish at 6/126, that would make the math line up more.

Murphy is going to be a great addition. Dude has a cannon for an arm. And with the bigger bases and only being able to throw over twice, that is going to be an asset.

Contreras is questionable at C, although slightly better with the bat. I'll take Murphy. Mueller and Tarnok never seemed to be in our future plans.

But they will have to rely heavily on Soroka or Anderson finding their form.

That first point can’t be overlooked. The run game next year will be insane. Teams will really take advantage of the new rules.

We now have a guy who can mow runners down.

This kid is really really good.

I get the Braves side of this trade. Hate giving up Contreras but I understand the appeal.

What is Oakland doing? Awful trade

Why are the Brewers in this trade? Did the A's really want Ruiz that badly? Because otherwise it sure seems like we could have just made the trade straight up with the A's without giving up Contreras.

Passan:

Full trade, per ESPN sources:

Atlanta gets: C Sean Murphy

Oakland gets: LHP Kyle Muller, UT Esteury Ruiz, RHP Freddy Tarnok, RHP Royber Salinas, C Manny Piña

Milwaukee gets: C William Contreras, RHP Justin Yeager, RHP Joel Payamps

FGDC and steamer project WC at 116 wrc+ and Murphy at 118 wrc+. Now fWAR, they project WC at 1.8/1.4 and Murphy at 4.0/4.3.

Murphy is his equal as a hitter, but far superior at catching

My only thought is that Atlanta is confident they’re going to sign Dansby or Correa. Otherwise, they essentially screwed themselves out of any trade chips and didn’t update a position of immediate need.

I think catcher defensive value is going to go down with the new stupid rule. Teams will steal a lot more and there is nothing good throwing cachers can do to stop them..

I think this is a clear signal that the Braves will look to add an OF and give the DH at bats to Ozuna and Rosario
Doesn't that take ab's away from either D'Arnaud/Murphy? Wouldn't it be better to get a LF and have the other two alternate catcher? Seems you gave a lot up to (arguably) have the same issue.
