Official official offseason thread

How about hitting up San Diego for Ha-Seong Kim and Jackson Merrill.

The IF would be set with Tatis/Bogaerts/Machado

They also have another IF prospect Rosario who could be their UT.

We have no one left to trade. He was a 5 WAR player last year.

Wil Myers would be my "big" signing if were AA. He's basically Duvall without the massive platoon splits. Should come for around 10-15 million, maybe with an option year and buyout.

I like Myers as well, but I wonder if he's going to crack $10 MM AAV on a one-year deal. Nice RHH option in LF, but can't back up in CF, which Duvall could do. Has played a lot of 1B, so we'd have a legitimate back-up at this position.

Haven't heard much about Duvall. I still think he's an option to come back depending on what happens between now and mid-January when the dust has settled.

One of the things I've noticed over the past decade is that with bigger contracts for star players and extensions for younger promising players, the middle class player really gets squeezed. Sometimes there's a mad rush in January after the big furniture has been put in place and teams are deciding what they want for end tables.

I am curious how this plays. So you think that a good throwing catcher will be even more valuable? I guess I see it differently. I think good base stealers are going to feast regardless of who is the catcher. They are going to expand thier lead and temp the pitcher to break contact. The pitcher can't just hold and wait either.. he has to make a decision in 20 seconds from when he gets the ball back from the catcher. One reason I think Okland valued the speedster so much. stealing bases will be back to being cool. regardless, this will be very interesting thing to watch this year. I hate the rule personally.. but Mandick wants to put some mark on baseball he can call a legacy I guess.

It’s a fair point. We really don’t know how the new rules will affect the game but we have a better chance to compete with a great defender than if we don’t. He not only throws well but his game calling and pitch framing also are really good. He’s the total package defensively and much better than Contreras. He should have a positive effect on our pitching staff. I think his durability also needs to be acknowledged. He played almost every day for Oakland last yr. Pretty remarkable for a catcher. I believe fans will learn to love him pretty quickly especially if he hits like he did last yr.

offense or defense?
.313 xwOBA vs .344.

I think defensive stats will be a whole new game after this year. could be more vaulable.. could start seeing teams just going with the best bat possible as MLB continues to drive towards more offense.

xwOBA is one stat I saw that he seemed to seperate.. so maybe that one stat versus the other 12 is more important. guess we will see.

One thing i've mentioned several times is that we cannot start off the season slow as we did the past 2 seasons. Our WS run was a product of the Phillies and Mets being average. Last season, the Mets played like I expected them to under the new manager. I expect that to be closer to how they perform this season.

If we dig too big of a hole early, we won't catch up, especially being that we play fewer games head to head with the new schedule.

just get in.. be healthy..

I wonder if they will have that week off for teams with byes. That seemed to hurt most of those teams.

what 12 more? they’re likely factored into xwOBA. what year are you in son?

lol the rule changes are pretty universally agreed to make defense more important and you say maybe it will make teams care about it less. whatever you want to think

Fried is gonna get 200 million

27 million a year for a 30 year old pitcher. What could go wrong. Fried will be 30 or 31 when he’s a free agent. That’s likely the starting point when he hits free agency in 2025. He gone. I wonder if we do trade him ahead of his free agency to recoup something? It’s hard when we’re contending, but objectively it’s the smart play.

Rodon got 6/162 isnt that bad given the market. Good deal for the Yanks but they need to address their offense somehow.

Mets sign Omar Narvaez. two-year, $15MM guarantee that allows him to opt out at the end of next season.

Ouch. And they already have two catchers on the roster plus their top prospect Alvarez ready.

There doesn't seem to be a "plan" for the NYM. Just stacking and stacking players.

That Nimmo deal is bonkers.

Watch him sell off the team and cut payroll when they don’t win the whole thing. Volatile situation for Mets fans.

Hahahaha watching the Mets fans meltdown would be glorious. I think Cohen needs at least another 4-5 seasons of finishing in second before he taps out and sells.
