Official official offseason thread

All valid points. Since he's gone this route, I'd like him to take the farm system rebuild to another level. It's like the Dodgers and Yankees do every year. Draft and international free agents.

The last two years have been exciting from my prospect-hound view point. AA has used the 2021-19 drafts as the center point of his trades. Of which I'm not particular sad about ( Shea is a stud, but Murphy is a proven stud). The top heavy prospects such as Waters, Tarnok, et.al allowed AA to maneuver his way to get the MLB club what it needed.

This leaves a bottom heavy farm that will need 3 years minimum to bear fruit even to the most optimistic prospect guru. You'll get 1-2 that will be closer, but this is major rebuild time. Shuster, Elder and a few others can plug and play at times. I won't bore you guys another list, but I'm ok with the farm knowing it'll be a minute until replenished unless we start trading high end talent which doesn't seem make sense IF the core performs as expected.

Or they can draft more guys that fly through the system. The relatively quick path to majors is not that unusual any more.

You just don't know how it will shake out.

Not sure anyone had the Braves having the two best ROY candidates this past year, both of whom were semi surprising to even make the roster.

no move is without risk but i’d say the extension route is less risky than the alternative, and having cost certainty is nice.

Just gauging it from this offseason's market the alternative was getting into even worse and riskier long term deals through FA or basically just standing pat doing a few more things on margins and letting these guys get a year closer to FA.

The latter is probably more my style I'll admit.

I feel like Ignacio Alvarez isn't getting enough hype. He was pretty terrific as a 19 year old in his first taste of professional ball. Do we know how his skills are at SS?

Not sure you can say it’s unbiased when the guy says he’s a huge Braves fan lol

I felt thethe wrote these. We got a full starting staff and a few lock down relievers... where is our list damnit.

edit... it was fun to look at. I have no idea who our prospects are anymore so I found it informative with a grain.

Definitely has a thethe vibe but I'm not gonna poopoo the list. Like Matt said...fun to look at.

Pretty interesting breakdown of all of the Braves extensions they've handed out, done by Ensheff's boy Ivan over at Talking Chop/Battery Power. He looks a good look at the financial aspect and risk reward, and even concluded the Braves were probably better off not extending Olson.

Excellent breakdown, and shows why the Olson extension is so questionable. As I've been saying for a while, they should have just let him exhaust his arb control and then move Riley to 1B. Hopefully Olson ages better than projected.

But . . . but . . . but . . . he's a local kid whose been a Braves' fan since his time in the womb!

It feels like AA was driven much more by his emotions when he offered that extension. If I have my timeline right, he hammered this agreement out the same day he was caught on camera literally crying about Freddie.

Olson basically accepted the first offer AA sent him. Probably a good indicator it might have been a bit too rich.

The one good thing in my eye is they don't have a major need to rush anybody at this point. But this is also the ideal time to reload, restock and strengthen the farm.

Lol Olson is nothing like Hamilton. Drugs did Hamilton in. Olson will be fine. He still had a good year and I expect him to be a monster with the new shift rules.
