Arcia to IL

Our offense just got better. Yes Arcia was hitting well. But Grissom is better. Hope his defense is improved.

So if Grissom can hit but can't hack it defensively at a high level and assuming Ozuna still is a SVoD, we DFA Ozuna right? Like we cannot have a DH who hits like a pitcher.

that is everyone's hope except the teams.. they are still hoping that 2020 will somehow appear..

Sooner or later the team will need to recognize that Ozuna is a sunk cost. I understand trying to salvage some value out of him but we really do need the best players on the field.

The date to watch for on ozuna is Harris' return date. I'm not sure it's a given then though unless white somehow turns into a player

It should be noted that Ozuna is running a BABIP of 0.048 (That is not a typo). His xwOBA is 0.338. If he was hitting .207/.320/.479 as his expected stats suggest, nobody would be too upset right now.

That Braves can't claim to be analytically inclined and then dump a guy with a .048 BABIP and a .338 xwOBA just because the results have been horrid through 41 PAs. The power is there, the walks are there, and nobody else in the organization warrants a bunch of PAs they aren't currently getting.

We should also understand that Olson isn't going to rock a .440 BABIP, just like Acuna won't sit at .429, Riley at .424, or Arcia at .294.

I am more concerned with Ozuna's K and weak GB%. Both are way too high. He is going to rock an insanely low Babip if he hit weak grounders all over the infield. Sure you are going to get a homer every now and then, but he more likely outcome will be a K or weak grounder or a walk. niether are all that exciting from a DH type hitter with no speed or redeming quality as a player otherwise.

xBA is .207, so low, but not as low as current. His xSlugging is .479 vs actual slugging of .250. He's been unlucky

True, but then they dumped Gausman. They also continually let Snitker run amok with terrible decisions. So, they’ve shown they aren’t always prone to doing the analytically minded thing, for whatever reason.

No I would be upset with a DH who's basically league average hitter.

We gambled extenting Ozuna after the COVID season.

But grab a random season of his odds are it's bad to averagish for his position.

2014 - He was good but was still a CF. Stats were OKish for Offensive FIrst Position (abv. to OFP from now on)
2015 - Bad for OFP
2016 - Averagish for OFP
2017 * Great offensive season
2018 - Slightly Below average for OFP
2019 - Averageish for OFP
2020 - Amazing sedason
2021 and 2022 - Dog****

I'm not saying Ozuna is a career bum, that would be a lie, only so many years of negative WAR is worth dealing with.

I don't need none of your fancy Dancy funny talk to know Ozuna stinks. His days as a Brave should be.dOA, supported by his poor.PLAY. To heck with his xBA.

I'm actually genuinely shocked how they get an xSLG of .470 when his LA is 0.8.

That is probably small sample noise.

I think the main point is you have to really weed through the stats to find ones to cherry pick to make him look average at best. Many others make him look like the dog **** he is.
