GDT 4/16/2023: Braves @ Royals - Playing our Tromp Card

Agreed. Wright with shoulder issues already seems like a guy on the wrong side of the decline curve. This is not the FA velocity chart you want to see out of a 27 year old pitcher:

All we can do now is hope he recovers and continues to contribute.

Side note....Wright is older than I realized, and it's very possible to bullets are running dry.

Wright took forever to develop and with him being a college pitcher there just might not be more than a couple of seasons left.

What am I missing.. he stayed pretty consistent in the 95ish range all last year and now we are throwing red flags after 2 starts into this year? I will worry if his chart is sitting 92-93 into June.

He "looks better" because he's hammered a few pitches in the zone over the last few games. As always, some meaningless sample size doesn't mean anything, but leads folks to believe something is now different.

When Albies shows improved O-Swing% over a ~50 PA sample there will be evidence of improvements he has made.
So the sample still counts even if the few pitches were in the zone...he still had to hit them. Not arguing semantics. My original aversion to the posts about him was more about the trade thoughts as if the Ozzie we know is not somewhere in that tiny guy. I'll take the positives any time when it comes to him.

That alone may not be enough to be worrisome, yes. But that coupled with the cortisone injection tells the story of a guy struggling with discomfort.

when did he get that? Pitchers have arm and shoulder inflamation all the time that turn into nothing burgers. But if he is getting injections after starts or before, then that is troubling.

He had the injection in January. He said every winter his shoulder catches and is bothersome, so he tried this this year and said it worked like a charm.

May be whistling past the graveyard, may be nothing to it and he’s gonna win 20.

I always anticipate a pitcher breaking down. that way I don't get heart broken.
