GDT #8 4/9/'14 Braves(Santana) vs Mets(Wheeler) No BJ Simmons batting 2nd.

Santana just said he asked the pitch the 9th but Fredi wouldn't let him. He said he couldn't talk Fredi out of it and that given the way the game was going he wanted a shot at finishing it. Then added that's okay maybe next time.

:YDS:

Have y'all seen how great Brandon Hicks has been playing for the Giants? He already has 3 homers, hitting well over .300, walking a lot, stealing bases and playing his usual strong defense. If he has finally figured out hitting he could help the Giants a lot given the value he brings on defense.

probably a fluke start

was ****ty w/ the a's as well

People are really complaining after a win? Seriously?

Heyward ripped the tits off a really good pitcher. Better have Simmons in the 2 hole tomorrow.

Yeah. Because that's become the thing to do around here. You even have certain people complain the team isn't good after wining 96 games.

And if Fredi left Santana in and he gave up runs:

Ermahgerd! Is Fredi trying to break Santana already. Why didn't he use "blah blah blah"

Walden had a rare struggle, I'm guessing he's trying to sort out his form.

I would not have said this.
88 pitches through 8? With the way our 'pen gets abused?
Best believe Erv should have gone out for the 9th.

People were upset when Julio was at 89 the other day and Fredi left him in. Even more pissed when he waa over 100.

If the time relative to Ervin coming reporting into camp to pitching today he'd still be in the middle of spring training. Both Roger and Fredi decided against him going 9 to give Walden work. I'm not opposed to that. I understand frustration of avilan and carpenter warming up and not being used but Walden sucked.

I'm super excited about having Santana here. I hope he likes pitching in the NL so much he signs a 4 year extension with us.

What stat sheet are you looking at? He has 1 HR. I think you are looking at his spring training statistics.

He has struck out 5 times in his first 12 ABs, which likely puts the chances of a long term .300 season in jeopardy. Doesn't play much SS anymore so I guess I'm not seeing him as being this high value guy.

Hicks would be a nice bench player for the Braves......thats really where he tops out as.

Agreed. Decent end of the bench option. I think you could flip a coin between him and Pastornicky. Hicks has more power, which would be good on this bench.

Guys like Hicks tend to come and go. I don't adulate Billy Beane, but he once said something to the effect that the difference between the best guys in AAA and the guys at the end of big league benches is minimal, if there is any difference at all. It all comes down to mixing and matching and finding guys that fit what you perceive as your needs. I think that's why AAA has become pretty much a taxi squad for the big league clubs and has ceased to be much of a development lab.

You're right my mistake, it was his spring stats. However, it seems that his regular season OPS is actually better than his spring OPS (though a smaller sample size of AB's of course).

Sure, but gave up 4 runs.

I dont mind going to the pen, but somehow Fredi's fault Walden sucked ass?

Per usual.

I don't have a problem going to the pen (although, I wouldn't have). The problem, as several others stated, was he warmed up / pitched our 4 best relievers in a 4 run game with our SP dealing. If you're going to warm up Avilan/Carp in the 8th, then pitch one of them in the 9th. Why sit them down, warm up ANOTHER pitcher, which then forced us to pitch ANOTHER pitcher.

Just really odd and bizarre. But this is the man who pinch Geral Laird with the game on the line

And how often does Kimbrel give up back to back hits? Also not Fredi's fault.

But either way WE WON THE GAME. 5-3 and the world is collapsing around us!

Huh? 4 runs?
Not Fredi's fault Walden didn't pitch well. Always with the strawmans.
IS Fredi's fault he didn't let a veteran who was dealing, hadn't walked anyone all night and was only at 88 pitches finish a game. This was a TEXTBOOK time to give the back end of the pen a rest. Many things that are seemingly common sense, Fredi throws away.
