Minor League Thread

AJSS gave up 2 runs on 4 hits and struck out 4 while walking 2. Not bad for his first start in AAA at 20 years old.
 
Clearly a bust!

I bet the HR freaked him out a little and he realized “ok, now I finally get it…. Gotta be careful up here” and it unnerved him maybe

His fastball is slightly below average in regards to spin. Raw stuff can get people out at the lower levels. You have to remember too he isn't stuck at these levels of spin at age 20. He'll probably get better spin with more experience.
 
I thought spin is something that you can’t really improve dramatically. He is on the shorter side so the arm angle will help the fastball play up. But that lack of spin on the slider won’t work if accurate.

He’s listed at 6’3”

AJ isn’t short at all
 
There are times where you can spin rate and BABIP and fkery stats all day. From watching him I couldn't tell his spin rate from a hole in the ground. As he moves up I'm sure that'll come into play but he wasn't getting guys out with smoke and mirrors. He will build up more strength and is still projectible as a 20 y/o.
 
I have a hard time seeing AA being this aggressive if the kid doesn't have the arsenal. I think AJ is the real deal until I see him get pounded in Atlanta
 
He looked good last night. Only really hard hit ball was by Jordan and he’s rated as the top prospect in baseball.

@gvedak posts a lot of clips with spin rates on Twitter and I mentioned the low spin rates to him…he said he attributed it to the new ball in AAA and he’s gonna give it a few starts before it becomes concerning for him
