2023 MLB Draft Thread

Tried telling everyone Waldrep wasn’t going to be overslot:

The Braves signed 1st rounder Hurston Waldrep to a $2,997,500 deal. Slot value for the 24th pick is $3,270,500.

Kuehler was at slot, Ceballos was underslot.

Damn, thats solid. Hopefully we can pay Drake.

Three of the first 4 picks are underslot. Drake and Bauuman only ones i can see way overslot? Makes the Hackenberg pick even more confusing.

Interesting that Waldrep was slightly under slot. On draft day, most of you thought he would be over. I will be interested to see where Hackenberg comes in. If he is really a money saver, I expect it will significantly under.

They could have gotten Hackenberg way later, like 4th round or so. He has gotta be a big saver, if he's close to slot, thats just confusing.

I'm sure they have an idea of what it will take for all involved. This stuff works itself out.

This is why you just don’t try to make sense of the draft in the moment. The Braves have drafted college pitchers better than any team the last 4 years, and they clearly like him (like a lot).

He’s going to be an interesting prospect to follow to say the least

Of the top 5 rounds, he's the most head scratching. I like the top half of the draft too. I get the money pool, but that throw in the dark was interesting. Now watch him be the best draft pick 😂😂😂. After Hurston that is.....

It is interesting that $2m ended up being his price. That number doesn’t come out of thin air. I would love to be a fly on the wall when the Braves brass discuss these things. So much we don’t know

I think we gave up a little international money this year with Jose Perdomo being the big prize, but that'll infuse more talent at the lower levels soon too.

The one area I can't claim to know is watching college baseball. This draft was interesting from that perspective. When they get into the system though, it'll be interesting where they go.
