GDT: 08/04 Braves @ Cubs: Return to Maximum Effort

raw

Solid GDT construction.

Solid starting pitching from my #ace

Solid hitting from the best damn offense in baseball.

Solid effort from bullpen.

Solid posting from forum.

2 hours twenty minutes of solid.

We have been deprived of a full season of Fried and Strider pitching back to back. Why have the baseball gods done this to us. Why Why why

How’s Malloy doing? Been a while since we got an update on him

Pretty dang good offensively, but he still doesn't seem to have a home defensively. Could be Terdoslavich 2.0. Non-zero chance he is a more fit version of Kyle Scwarber.

Cole Hamels was probably the worst move of AA’s tenure, but if he even contributed a little bit to Fried’s development then that’s money well spent

It has to be a kick in the nuts for Swanson (and FF) to see the braves just not skip a beat without him

The Braves have a .636 win % against teams over .500. The best record in baseball. Baltimore is the second best with .567 against teams over .500.

The Braves are beating everyone.

Fried getting all this time off is a blessing in disguise. I don't have a lot of faith in Fried pitching a full season and still being at his best deep into the playoffs.

Comments from Swanson before yesterdays game:

As much as it could have hurt to leave his hometown team, Swanson is at peace with his decision.

“[Remaining with the Braves] would have been, in a way, the easier route,” Swanson said. “But like I said, just having prayed a ton about it and really giving that part over to God just really made things clear and simple.

“This is where he wanted myself and my wife [Mallory] to be. And like I said, how can I argue with that?”

I'm sure he prayed a ton and the answer gave him nearly $180m reasons to leave Atlanta. Wish he'd just come out and say it. lol

Chicago is a good sports town remember.

Lemme ask you fellas a question -
I know y’all are smarter than me -
Let’s say you are AA and our FO think tank -
You run Fried through the gauntlet of medicals and MRIs and etc - he is all clear……
You know where this is going -

Do you risk greatly screwing up our window by extending him for the fortune he will command ?

Or do you let him walk next winter with hopefully two shiney new ‘23 and ‘24 WS rings?
