GDT: 08/04 Braves @ Cubs: Return to Maximum Effort

At age 28, and after leading the league in Ks and ERA over the prior 2 seasons, Gerritt Cole signed for 9/324. I don't foresee Fried getting that at age 30, but 7/220 is certainly on the table if he can stay healthy and dominant.

It’s going to come back to the medicals on that elbow. I would be really hesitant giving him that money he was just shut down for 2 months with a forearm strain

Rodon got 6/162 and he wasn't nearly as dominant or healthy over his career as Fried has been. Fried and his agent likely don't blink for less than 7/170.

Yeah, cant see how he doesnt get around what Rodon got. Which isnt looking like a good contract at all right now fwiw.

Best move and most likely one is he plays it out and leaves like Dansby/Freddie. Giving those kinds of deals to pitchers is extremely risky.

Any pitcher over 30 and has a history of arm issues is gonna be a problem. Just enjoy him next year and let him walk and bring in 1 or 2 more rotation options. Hopefully Waldrep develops before then and is ready. Dude looks legit.
