I pointed this out on deadline day and was told I was being hyperbolic.
So dumb not to be 8 SPs deep before Yonny!

I don't know why you or anyone else would expect multiple starters to go down between now and then and why we should plan for that.
No doubt we needed another good starter. A 6 man rotation down the stretch would have been a good thing.
First, we already had essentially a three man rotation. It was Strider, Morton, Elder and pray for rain. So adding a starter would have just been smart to not have such a hobbled rotation. Fewer starts we have to lean on our pen, fewer starts where we need our reliable starters to go longer, etc. It's looking like Cheerios is going to get a 4th start. That's a problem even if we can coast into the playoffs.
Second, Fried and Wright are coming back from months long injuries. Counting on their health is a risky endeavor. Especially Wright. If Wright doesn't come back by the playoffs (very real possibility with a shoulder injury), we're a line drive back up the middle away from Cheerios getting a playoff start.
I think we needed to have guarded against Wright not coming back. We didn't. If he doesn't come back then the rotation is dangerously thin.

I feel like there’s a basic level of common sense needed to post here. Like that some things are so basic they don’t need to be stated, much less taken out back and beaten like the dead horse they are over and over
Again, we're talking about Chrinos starting a playoff game, which would only happen with multiple injuries between now and the playoffs. Expecting multiple injuries to cause such a scenario is silly.
Could we have used an extra starter? Sure. The same way we could have used an upgrade in LF. Those are luxury moves however, but needs.
We've already had multiple injuries to the rotation this year. Guarding against it isn't silly.
Also, it's not guarding against two injuries. A wise GM wouldn't count on Wright coming back. Shoulder injuries can be finicky and have ended a lot of careers. Getting another starter is guarding against injury to any of our best 4.
Soroka or maybe even AJSS are far more likely to make a playoff start then Chrinos. Honestly, we would probably just go BP game in that scenario anyways. I would be surprised if Chirinos was on the 40 man come September.

Perhaps because it's fair to have seen the performance of these pitchers and Cheerios and project doom quite easily. Let's just pray there are no more injuries to pitchers who don't actually throw meatballs up to home plate. Then we can worry about the playoffs.....Why with a 10 game division lead, are people concerned with Chirinos making a playoff start in early August? WTF.

If you're confident enough after Strider and Max, that's cool. I'm not. I'm not ready to fly off the deep end but winning in spite of crapastic pitching sucks. Nobody here doesn't think the offense is good enough to overcome that most nights, but fk that come playoffs. That's just me though.Doom?? what is doom.. losing #1 seed is about all I can see happening.. This team is way to good that they can even overcome a stretch of bad pitching. Heck, I think they are 3-1 in Cheerios starts.. I know at least 2-1...
The spelling of Stider and Freud alone makes me smile. Carry on.As a brave, chirinos has had the following FIPs: 2.45, 1.87, and 12.87. Now sure you could say the season sample sucks; but if you wanna go bigger samples...
Elder last 2 seasons (27 starts): 3.93 FIP
Morton last 2 seasons (53 starts): 4.19 FIP
Elder and Morton are fine with Stider and Freud leading the staff. Sure having another starter would be nice, but it wasn't worth using AJSS. Hell, AJSS, soroka, or wright could be in the rotation soon
