Murphy War Crimes

Remind me what clv acronym is? :)

Its just incredibly frustrating. We have the best catcher in baseball, with an 872 ops and he is the best defensive catcher in the game and 28 years old! and he is being benched for a 35 year old, average defender with a 698 ops!! I've truly never seen anything like this before.

Wait. You are saying you wanted to say it weeks ago and didn’t. You have been saying it consistently for several weeks. When did you hold back at all?

You have actually said you were finished talking about it several times….

I don’t know the answer to the situation, but I am pretty certain you have been saying it out loud for a while now.

Was a long time poster who just recently passed, about a year ago…. Was known for his 7 paragraph posts.

He was saying he didn’t want to say he was openly routing against tda

I like how every time I find myself begrudgingly thinking "this guy has a point about Murphy and d'Arnaud, the usage here is really weird," AJones just goes and pushes the crazy a little bit further so I'm in the same relative position as before.

Political scientists call it pushing the AJones Window.

Did you all not hear TDA’s interview during the celebration. He said that he thinks that Murphy CAN be the best catcher in the game ONE DAY and that his goal is to help him get there.

He basically just confirmed that the team doesn’t think Murphy is up to snuff, for whatever reason that may be.

What are message boards for, if not for venting and letting off some steam after a long week :)

The point remains - we are arguably better off with TD playing as badly as possible to get Murphy the starting point back. It might just take TD's average getting down below 220. I'll laugh when he now hits two bombs tonight and Murphy goes 0-4 tomorrow, but if the goal is to win a WS, I would argue whatever gets Murphy back in the line-up in the playoffs is the best answer for the Atlanta Braves.

and while I've said I'm done on this topic several times, what changed is it went from me complaining that Murphy is the starter and not playing enough, to Murphy legitimately becoming the back-up. Hence the topic warranted reopening. When it began, it was not in debate that he was the starter and there was just frustration that him even playing 3 out of 5 was arguably not enough. In the past 3 weeks its gotten more extreme

That would violate team rules. Murphy not allowed to play two in a row and can not play day games starting at 1:00.

I checked today and Murphy has slashed .177/.319./.286 in the second half, and .154/.290/.154 in September. Snit a genius confirmed.

TD back in today. It’s a flat out platoon. This will go down as one of the more baffling ones will see

What are the odds Murphy starts game one of playoffs? My sense is below 50%, unless front office truly steps in

Given they never stepped in, in what’s been an unusually extreme situation for going on two months, I just don’t think they will. My sense is if they viewed this as a problem, they wouldn’t have let it morphed for basically a 60+ day period. So for reasons I can’t comprehend, the Braves organization is just ok letting an irrational love of TD culminate into him being a co-starter

My biggest concern is having 2 catchers who do not have sufficient enough reps at the end of season to be productive in the postseason. Maybe if Murph plays everyday in Oct he can get going eventually.

I share the same concern. Just look at ozuna, Rosario, etc. those guys felt one step away from being released but got ran out there every day and got it going. I don’t get why Murphy doesn’t get the same treatment. We gave this guy an $80mm extension to sit on the bench? Crazy

Probably because he barely plays and he's obviously a much better player when he plays regularly. TDA has slashed .179/.205/.325 in the second half

Trying to figure out where the genius lies...

In AA we trust. With how much is at stake year in, year our, I just have a hard time believing Snitker gets to decide to platoon the catchers. It would be amazing if one of best writers actually questioned the decision though. It really is puzzling.

I'm actually now having PTSD where I'm literally expecting because TD went 1-3 with two walks, that will randomly see him get the two starts in a row tonight...

Jokes aside though, we really do need Murphy to bust out. As much sh&t as I'm giving Snit, it doesn't help that Murphy has gone hitless in four of his past five starts...
