My sympathy is always with those who are just trying to live their lives and get caught up in things. There are many on both sides who fall into this category. Honestly I think those who will live peacefully should be accepted and radicals should be sniffed out. I will say that carving out a religious state on previously unoccupied land was one of the dumbest and most un-American things we have ever done and yes I know the history and that it wasn’t just us. The United States should never get into religious politics domestically or internationally.Surely it is possible to simultaneously support Israel's right to defend itself, to observe that Hamas is a terrorist organization and to believe that Israel's policies toward the Palestinians aren't exactly kosher.
It wasn't "previously unoccupied land." That is literally the root of the problem.
