Kyle Wright Injury

But AA may not be able to wait for that opportunity. He may have to get one of these guys on a 3 year deal somehow.

Beat writers for the Brewers and the Rays are suggesting their teams could trade Corbin Burnes and Tyler Glasnow this offseason. Both pitchers are entering into the final year of their deal and are unlikely to re-sign with their team.

I'd definitely be more interested in Glasnow over Burnes, but I wouldn't be upset if we got either of them. Especially if Morton chooses to retire.

I could see Eduardo Rodriguez coming on a reasonable 3-year deal. Unless he loves Detroit enough to opt-in

I dunno, he's already got 3 years left on his deal if he opts back in, so I doubt he'd opt out just for another 3 year deal. Plus he apparently likes Detroit enough to stay there rather than pitch for the Dodgers.

More $$ though.

But good point, may take more years which I’m not interested inn

AA should have $30M-$50M of payroll in 2024 depending on how much over the cap they are willing to go, assuming all of Rosario ($9M), Morton ($20M) and McHugh ($6M) are retained. I expect the bulk of that cash to go towards a SP on a short term deal.

I think they retain Rosario. But Morton has a good chance to call it quits, and McHugh is toast, he's gone. But there's alot of SP's available this offseason.

His family lives in Florida and he didn’t want to go to the west coast. I think he’d be happy to play for the Braves

He also had a shoulder scare at the end of the year so that would make me nervous

I think we will bring in Stroman given AAs history with him. And as I recall, I think we tried trading for him before the Mets got him in 2019. If suspect he will be priority for AA regardless if he opts into this final year or not.

Sonny Gray is my preferred target this winter, assuming we could get him for 4 years or less. But he and Blake Snell seem like the clear top FA pitchers with Ohtani hurt and Julio Urias a woman beater. So I won't be surprised if a big market team throws something like 5/140 at him.

Any interest in Yoshinobu Yamamoto? Or should I say any interest in getting into that bidding war? I am guessing he will get over 200 million but he will play most of next season at only 25 years old. I think he rivals Yu Darvish as best pitcher to come out of Japan. All things considered I think he is the safest FA pitcher. Paying pitchers into their late 30's because of what they did in the 20's almost always feels like a bad idea but we would probably only have to sign Yamamoto through his early 30's. I think the contract we will offer Fried to stay will be similar to what Yamamoto gets. If we dont think Fried will re-sign maybe redict that money to Yamamoto and we can atleast have both for 1 year.

He went to LSU, but he's probably gonna get a massive deal somewhere. Unless he somehow took a short-term deal (unlikely).

He will get a big deal but I doubt a massive deal. He was obviously not the same guy as he’s been in previous years. He’s no longer an ace.

Sonny Gray grew up just south of Nashville, so he's probably been a Braves' fan since he jumped out of his crib, making it almost certain that he'll sign with the Braves for the minimum. Heck, he would probably flaunt the MLBPA and actually pay the Braves for the opportunity to play with them.

Mets been linked to Yamamoto.

Nola reminds me of when Madison Bumgarner hit free agency and landed a huge deal with the D-Backs. Bumgarner was entering is age 30 season, Nola will be entering age 31. Bumgarner's FIP in his last year with the Giants was 3.90, Nola's this year was 4.03. The big difference is that Nola was legitimately excellent last year and Bumgarner had been knocking around in the 3.90 range of FIP for a couple years before he went FA.

All that to say, I expect Nola to land a Bumgarner like deal and I want no part of that.
