Today, I posted reporting that included inaccurate information that Shohei Ohtani was traveling to Toronto. I regret the mistake and apologize to baseball fans everywhere. I am deeply sorry for letting you down

LMAO

Except he keeps incrementally increasing the budget with each deal.

He got rid of Gonzales to decrease what we owe on the dead money we had to take on.

While Stassi and Fletcher combined make more than White, Fletcher alone makes less. If we can clear Stassi we'll drop the dead money we owe some more.

Fletcher at least can provide infield depth which we're painfully thin at so he has more use than White.

AA is chipping away at the negative value we had to take to get JK and I'm here for it.

I’m here for it—I just don’t think the motivating impulse for these marginal machinations is “stay under a certain budget,” given that the luxury tax hit keeps going up.

I really don't understand why we didn't just keep Nicky Lopez. I mean I guess he was essential in getting Bummer, but I'm not really crazy about Bummer either. Surely we could have found a better reliever in FA.

Kinda seems like AA is making moves just to make moves.

All you guys clamoring for a superutility player, you got him. Plays anywhere on the diamond.

Can’t hit anywhere he plays, costs $6M per, but here he is.

Assuming the Angels absorbed all of Evan White, I’m okay with it. Hope we can shed Stassi. He’s a nice catcher, so somebody ought to bite.

You think after 13 trades, AA will have turned a used piece of clay into a gold bar?

I mean, whatever. Until Shohei decides, I'm just going to stick my head in the sand and believe that Fletcher was acquired to help seal the deal on Shohei. Stassi may be traded, but he'll be brought back after next season when TDA retires to be Shohei's catcher. OR TDA is used instead this offseason in a trade for a SP and Stassi is the backup to Murphy.

I wouldn't go that far. Anthopoulos isn't done, but if all the so-far machinations have been done to get Kelenic and Bummer it's almost like mating mules.

Yeah I really don’t see how acquiring Stassi is a move that will lead to anything significant.

I don’t think that big FA acquisition is coming. I think AA is building around the edges right now and maybe there will be a smaller sign like Lugo. But I’m not seeing mastery in these little moves.

Aint gonna happen, but it would make sense. That would ensure (theoretically) that Murphy becomes our primary catcher again instead of essentially being the backup catcher.

Well. My tin foil hate theory is. Fletcher is the backup infielder, Kelenic is most likely the every-day LF'er. You can find backup OF'ers on the FA/trade market for basically nothing. Which leaves Grissom kinda expendable, which would make Stassi/Grissom/with a pitcher or two for a SP?

I can't see any way TDA is traded, especially after they picked up his contract extension mid last season. He's a leader in the clubhouse, and for a team that prioritizes harmony in the clubhouse, that would be a very unpopular move.

Moving Lopez made room for some of the salary obligations taken on to get Kelenic, in the form of another utility player who will likely also play very little.

It seems like Lopez and the roster purge in general were all about making space to buy a useful piece of two by accepting dead weight with them. Either there is another Kelenic type of deal coming, or AA liked Kelenic enough to justify A LOT of wheeling and dealing to make him the focus of the off-season.
