Official 2024 Off-Season Thread!

I fail to see how. That’s an albatross of a contract and it really will hurt the Dodgers in the not too distant future. The Dodgers consistent make the splash and consistently come up short.

Not only is he worth around this amount he also allows you to hold an extra bullpen arm.

And it also comes with the fact his stardom pays for the contract alone.

He’s basically a glorified DH since he’s not pitching right now. Real glad the Braves didn’t pursue him for that. Pure insanity to pay him that.

I think Dodgers would have been smarter to sign Yama. They need pitching way more than hitting. Their offense was insane last year, the pitching was a big problem and he's already had two TJ's.

That's unbelievable...no player in any sport is worth that much. This is so bad for baseball.

Going to be funny when this dude never pitches again... Best case hes still good for 3-5 years... those last 5 years are going to be brutal.

lol… he is nowhere near worth that kind of money. Typical dumb take from the board clown. Please let me know how many starting pitchers come back anywhere close to the same from multiple TJ surgeries… I’ll wait… $70 million a year for a DH who may never pitch much again… lmao.

Lot of media guys said Ohtani was holding up the market. So let's see some more moves happen now lol.

Even with some money deferalled, he is not worth that much. Even if like 20M per year is pushed back, no player is worth that much.

Because he's a good player and the dodgers are the Braves biggest competition. Money means nothing to them.

It’s not my fault you don’t understand basic valuations. Ohtani is easily the best or second best player of all time and like eovaldi im expect Ohtani to be a dominant pitcher again and you’ll pretend you never said the above.

Ohtani turns 30 next year. The risk of him collapsing really begins and increases each year. There's a non-zero chance Ohtani pulls an Uggla and is unplayable in 3 years. It's not likely but it's possible.

And Ohtani is signed through age 39. If it was a less rich team this contract would cripple the team for a decade.
