Global Events & Politics Überthread

Not blaming it on Trump, but the NATO condition is such a fucking dumb one. Ukraine has continuously been supported as if they’re a NATO country anyway. Why would that possibly be a necessary requirement to end the war? Seems like an easy concession for Putin to make in exchange for his land grab.

The land grab that’s been completed for 12 years? lil P likely doesn’t feel like he has to give anything for that at all

I am cool with telling Putin he can have Crimea and Ukraine won't join NATO.. Doesn't mean a damn thing in the long term. Ukraine needs to take the time to rebuild their military and once the felon is gone they can seize Crimea back in a surprise Special military operation.

The thing about ending the war though is then comes an election and Russia will be trying hard to get a puppet in power.

I’m sure you have better sources.

In what world is he not afraid of Trump more than ice cream Joe ?

I don't know why he would be afraid of either but one is infinitely more gullible and easy to manipulate. No one is scared of Trump. Well women are probably afraid to be left alone with him but that's it.

Sure!

If you say so, it’s gotta be true. 101 dimension chess

So you deny its easy for people to butter up Trump and that he changes his stance on people solely based on what recent things they have said about him? He hired John Bolton because he agreed with Trump on 1 single thing. You are crazy if you think Putin wasnt popping champagne when Trump won.

How much land did he take under Obama and Biden?

How much under Trump?

Ukraine was a Russian puppet when Obama took office. So Ukraine gained all of itself under Obama and became a western ally. You can feed into this tough guy Trump BS but what exactly was Trump going to do if Putin did a special military operation during his term?

Idk bc he didn’t.

He did during Biden though.

Trump also had Iran dead and lifeless until Joe came along and fucked that up too. They then funded Hamas. We see how that turned out

Trump also just dropped a bomb on Iran

No one was scared of Joe, no one.

Trump is unpredictable. They don’t like that.

Lots of criticism for the mango, but I think he’s doing a stellar job handling Russia/Ukraine right now

It’s a tragedy it’s taken over 3 years to get to the point where actual progress is being made
Yep, now that it’s played out, I think Trump appears to have done a genuinely good job on this, as has the European delegation. Trump has *said* some wild shit about Ukraine and Russia at times, but I can’t say there’s an actual action he’s taken in the conflict that was wrong.

In particular, Trump is absolutely right here. As long as we weren’t inviting Putin as a friend to discuss how he can benefit most, this is exactly how we should be using our global influence. It can both be true that Russia is/was the aggressor in this conflict, and that we should meet with Russia to discuss ways to end the conflict. That’s just called diplomacy.

Meanwhile, the online right continues to not understand what Zelenskyy’s role is here. That he even took the meeting in the first place is a sign he’s open to compromising, but he absolutely should not be openly saying he’ll accept anything less than Russia’s complete abandonment of Ukraine.

This is what I’m talking about on the pro-Ukraine side. This is very much a delegation that might show up for a genuine peace negotiation, and it’s being assumed to be a power move by Zelenskyy.

It’ll be a real shame if Ukraine cedes land to Russia in this affair, but at what point do you stop forcing Ukrainian (and Russian) soldiers to die to stop that outcome?

I think the best possible outcome at this point is Russia being granted some of the disputed land in exchange for Ukraine’s admission into NATO and some sort of structure to stop Putin from effectively mobilizing his military for further aggression.
Whoever the leader was that Zelensky brought that said why don’t we wait a month or two and meet again ….

Shouldn’t have been on that trip if they were interested in a deal.

Yep. There has been a stronger effort to end this war in the last 6 months than there was the previous 3 years.
