Minor League Thread Part Deux

May really have something with him. Excited to watch him, Lodise, Miller, Southisene, and Williams battle for MIF PAs in 2026. And nice to have more than just Ambioris Tavarez to follow up-the-middle in the minors (though he’s been decent since the fail upwards to AA).
Lodise gotta chill on strike outs

I’m not putting too much stock into the first-season numbers, good or bad, for the recent draftees—especially since they’re all probably a level too high, with the FCL schedule idiocy. I’m encouraged that he’s holding his own and hitting with some power; hoping the K-rate normalizes next year (when he’ll probably repeat at Rome).

But so far, Miller and Williams (and Braunschweig) look to be the guys that will move quicker, based on control of the strike-zone. Loving Gil’s second half, as well—I’m guessing he’s done enough to start 2026 in Rome (at a very young age—keep Zito away!).

In terms of upper-minors MIF, Waddell has made himself interesting in 2025, with his steady, very-solid performance all year at AAA. Not sure his place in the majors, if Kim opts-in (or is extented). I believe he needs to be added to the 40-man this offseason—but they can always punt Ornelas off and keep him in AAA for depth. Not sure he has enough shine to net anything in trade—but maybe Allen’s elite glove could find a taker for a low-minors flier, and Waddell could join the Braves’ bench?

Southisene now up to 50 plate appearances as a pro and hasn’t walked once.
Same caveat I posted above applies. He should be in the FCL, but the reconfiguration of leagues and attendant schedules means he’s in A-ball (because the other options is just working out at the Braves’ complex). So a huge grain of salt needs to accompany his 2025 numbers. He’s just getting his feet wet in pro ball as a recent high-school graduate, and likely even starts 2026 in the FCL. So pretty much any positive results are a great sign, and I wouldn’t sweat at all his ~40% k-rate or Nick Allen-level OPS.

At the end of the day, I wanted to see growth this season from the entire organization. That happened. I don't think the Braves had a unanimous take on the farm other than they are at the "bottom" according to the eggsperts. The international groups over the last couple of years have been meh, but even those players have had moments. I've never put a lot of emphasis on where the farm ranked, but it's been obvious that during the penalties, the organization was going to step back. Even then, the Braves have produced quality mlb players.

Fast forward to today and the system is looking up. I say that for a few reasons: Quantity of quality (I know....dumb sounding), but I mean the Braves have a large number of prospects who can/should end up being contributors in the majors (like a Waddell), development (pitching for sure) and coming soon.....balance. Upper and lower level talent. That last part has been lacking for a few years.

I usually group players in my own tiers as I've seen them, but I'm starting to incorporate deeper stat lines in order to confirm or deny what I see. Next year is the year I think this system completes it's makeover. That should be exciting for Braves fans and prospect hounds alike.

The positive I'm seeing is that there is a wave of reasonable talent coming through the lower levels and that's going to push out a lot of the hangers-on who were only there because the only option for the Braves would have been signing hangers-on from other teams' systems (which they sometimes did). F,or the past few seasons, the pitching depth has been strong and while the Braves have developed a handful of hitters, the rest of the system reminded me of the latter portion of the Wren years when the system was populated with a ton of minor league free agents and guys released by other teams.

Minor leaguer Jacob Gomez arrested for shoplifting trading cards at Wal Mart. He was an undrafted free agent signing so they released him. Obviously he is wrong but I feel far more sympathetic for him stealing over a bonus baby who has no need he couldnt pay for. We wouldnt be releasing Caminiti if he was caught shooting meth in a Wal Mart and I find this move by the team as just hypocritical. They want to give off the appearance of zero tolerance but its just BS. Waldrep coud beat his wife and not get released.

The better option is to not do stupid stuff. The best option is to not do stupid stuff when you’re expendable.
